SUMMARY

The EHS Technician will be a key member of Nature’s Bakery’s Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Team, supporting one of our four production shifts. This role involves daily monitoring and implementation of Health, Safety and Environmental programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. The HSE Technician will plan an essential role in the site HSE management system through hands on execution of the Health, Safety and Environmental Standards work with the HSE Department composed of other HSE Technicians, HSE Specialist and the HSE Manager to maintain a safe and compliant workplace across the facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and deploy the site specific HSE programs and plans to position the site as a best-in-class organization
  • Deliver effective safety training programs & coaching to Associates at all levels, emphasizing hazard recognition, emergency preparedness and food safety standards
  • Lead the effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment and risk prediction processes at the site and drive for appropriate mitigation measures to lower site environmental and safety risks
  • Serve as a trusted resource for Associates, ensure effective communication and provide guidance on safety concerns and fostering engagement in HSE initiatives
  • Develop a prioritized, multi-tiered risk-based prioritization plan. Work with site and central resources to execute on plan
  • Support investigation of all HSE related incidents/near misses utilizing specific tools to preform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence
  • Drive completion of recognized corrective actions to prevent incident recurrence and ensure they are effectively implemented; this may include execution of corrective actions developed from other site incidents
  • Serve as a site level HSE technical expert, providing technical expertise/coaching as needed in all areas and initiatives of the function including capital project review and risk management associated with noncapital modifications
  • Use a data driven approach to manage, modify and prioritize site HSE direction. Share and use data influence, motivate, measure and drive continuous improvement
  • Manage environmental compliance programs, including waste reduction, recycling and energy efficiency initiatives
  • Ensure proper handling, storage and disposal of hazardous materials and maintain all environmental permits/records
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop sustainable practices that align with the company’s environmental goals
  • Partner with Value Streams to drive Safety Culture foundation and collaborate with onsite management to ensure HSE goals are mutually met
  • Work in partnership with the Quality Assurance and Sanitation Teams to align HSE initiatives with food safety and hygiene protocols, including allergen control, sanitation and cross-contamination prevention
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and create campaigns to foster a safety-minded culture across the facility
  • Contribute to the development and promotion of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) in production and packaging processes
  • Identify and implement innovative HSE solutions to improve processes, reduce risks and enhance associate safety
  • Stay informed of regulatory changes and industry best practices to ensure the facility remains at the forefront of HSE excellence

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Food Science or related fields
  • HSE Certifications such as CSP, CIH or CHMM
  • 3+ years of experience in Health, Safety and Environmental roles, preferably in food manufacturing or similar industries
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, FDA and GMP requirements for food production
  • Proficiency with HSE Management systems and tools, as well as working knowledge of HACCP, SQF or other food safety systems
  • Experience with incident investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action planning
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage and train Associates across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience in driving HSE programs/systems in a manufacturing environment
  • Working knowledge of HSE regulations (Local and Federal) and audit requirements
  • A self-driven proactive Safety Professional with a passion for sustainable cultural change
  • Ability to lead with influence, work with cross-functional teams and drive desired results
  • Working knowledge in waste management and waste minimization in a manufacturing environment
  • Success in working with multiple waste streams and driving continuous improvement initiatives around waste management
