Senior UI Artist

United States, Santa Monica, CA

Ability to work hybrid from our Santa Monica, CA based studio is required.

For nearly 40 years, Naughty Dog has been crafting best-selling, critically acclaimed games that constantly push the boundaries of narrative, gameplay, and technology. Naughty Dog recently released The Last of Us Part II Remastered as well as a current generation remake of The Last of Us Part I for the PS5. We're also proud to say that The Last of Us Parts I and II are now available for the first time on PC. Currently, we’re busy at the kennel working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and we’d love to find talented individuals to join us.

Naughty Dog games have long been lauded for their evocative, character-driven stories and attention to detail. We are committed to innovation within our games and as such have curated some of the top creative and technically innovative minds in the industry. We welcome diverse candidates and believe that a broad range of cultural and life experiences contribute to the overall well-being and success of the studio and the titles we craft together.

We’re looking for a Senior UI Artist who thrives on crafting UI that’s functional, minimal, and deeply integrated into our game’s narrative. You’ll take ownership of the visual identity of our user interface — setting the bar for polish, clarity, and immersive design. You’ll develop a robust UI Art Bible, design and animate complete HUD and menus, and deliver clear, context-rich mock-ups that communicate exactly how the UI supports gameplay. This is a role for someone who actively seeks out the information they need, collaborating directly with Design, Art, and Engineering to turn ideas into elegant, practical solutions that enhance the player experience from start to finish.

What you will do:

  • Build and maintain a comprehensive UI Art Bible that defines style, visual language, and standard processes for all user interface elements across the project
  • Design, illustrate, and animate high-fidelity HUD and menus that feel integrated into a mature, cassette futurism sci-fi setting
  • Deliver polished, context-rich mock-ups and motion prototypes that show how HUD and menus work moment-to-moment in-game
  • Proactively gather design requirements and creative direction across disciplines, ensuring UI design decisions are advised, intentional, and aligned with gameplay needs
  • Work closely with external teams in different time zones, helping manage tasking and clearly communicating visual direction to ensure consistent quality and alignment with our in-house standards
  • Partner with UX, Game Design, Art Direction, and Engineering to ensure usability, readability, and flawless in-engine implementation
  • Champion best practices for maintaining clarity and consistency across platforms and screen sizes
  • Contribute to pipeline development and cross-team workflows to ensure efficient production and iteration
  • Help mentor other artists and maintain a high bar for quality within the team

What skills you will use:

  • 5+ years of experience as a UI Artist in game development, with a portfolio that demonstrates shipped AAA titles or highly polished work in a senior role
  • Confirmed experience developing and maintaining UI style guides or art bibles
  • Strong visual design fundamentals in typography, layout, iconography, and motion.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality, functional UI that’s cohesive with the game’s world and narrative.
  • Self-starter with excellent communication skills and a collaborative, cross-disciplinary approach
  • Experience coordinating or providing feedback for external artists or outsource partners is a plus.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard design and animation tools (Photoshop, Illustrator, Figma, After Effects)
  • Familiarity with game engines (Unreal, Unity, or equivalent) and implementation workflows
