The Editor is responsible for reviewing, editing, and polishing English-language translations for AAA MMORPGs and related materials to suit a Western audience. You will work with the Lead Writer to develop terminology and style guides, name characters and events, and localize translated in-game content such as dialogue and descriptions. You will also work with the Marketing team to edit and polish marketing copy, along with similar XFN work as needed. You will coordinate with Project Managers to ensure that all work is completed at the highest quality level possible, on time and within budget.
[Responsibilities]
- Review and edit translated text and voice over scripts for major Korean video games and related products, ensuring all text meets NCSOFT’s high internal quality standards.
- Edit translated Marketing copy, sometimes re-writing to ensure appropriateness for Western audience.
- Establish company style and proactively communicate with team members to ensure consistency of tone, terminology, and content of game localization. Review marketing assets and out-of-game communication as needed to ensure it includes correct terms and accurately reflects the game content. Review and edit content for correct grammar and clear messaging. Provide constructive feedback as needed.
- Edit Voiceover scripts, supporting the Lead Writer in providing Recording Studio with final voice over script in preferred format as well as other assets as needed. Provide direction and context to recording engineer and/or voice over director before and during recording sessions. Manage quality assurance and final delivery of audio deliverables.
- Drive and own localization for new features, collaborating with other stakeholders to ensure that feature names and descriptions align with the strategy for the feature and the high-level strategy for the product.
- Collaborate with QA team to identify and rectify text errors, typos, audio issues, and any other confusing or incorrect localization in game
- Provide qualitative feedback to translators.
- Build relationships with stakeholders to help manage timeline and budget goals.
- Support the Localization Manager as a Senior team member.
- Manage your workload independently, and ask for help as needed.
[Qualifications]
- Native-level English proficiency with impeccable creative writing skills. Ability to localize English text for Western audience
- Knowledge and understanding of RPGs or other video games and a strong interest in narrative Localization
- Strong marketing copy-writing skills
- Solution-oriented focus, able to negotiate ambiguity
- Ability to work well within tight timelines, technical limitations, and/or established story constraints
- Comfortable giving and accepting constructive feedback
- Skilled with basic software programs (MS Office, etc.) and the ability to learn new ones quickly
- Experience with MemoQ or other Translation Management Systems preferred
- Ability to question the given and think outside the box
- Meticulous eye for detail and a solid foundation of linguistic excellence
- Bilingual English/Korean strongly preferred
- 5+ years experience in creative, video game, or copy writing, editing, localization, linguistics, translation or similar, especially in the context of videogames
- 2+ years as a writer or editor in a time-sensitive environment (preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of MS office, HTML and XML formats
- In-depth understanding of industry standard localization processes
- Experience working with voice over actors and recording studios highly preferred
- Experience working with CAT Tools and familiarity with localization processes highly preferred

$75,000 - $90,000 USD
