Job Summary
Supports the software engineering team in designing, developing, and testing complex software systems and applications for software enhancements and new products, including cloud-based and internet-related tools. Works within the team to support clients’ project objectives.
We are looking for an engineer already established at this level — someone who works independently on assigned tasks and takes direction from the team on bigger-picture architecture and sequencing.
Essential Functions
- Independently analyse, troubleshoot, and break down complex tickets, identifying dependencies across teams and epics.
- Support the product refinement process, including ticket creation and analysis for development work.
- Follow architectural decisions made by the team and understand the reasoning behind them.
- Engage in brainstorming sessions and propose innovative ideas and solutions.
- Contribute to proof-of-concept implementations and prototypes used to gather feedback and make informed decisions, considering risks that might affect the solution.
- Contribute to the CI/CD process, including automated testing and improving test coverage for the product.
- Express yourself clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, in writing and verbally.
- Understand adoption and release barriers to entry for the product and technology.
- Support the Product Manager and team in developing a strategic launch and release plan with cross-functional teams.
- Promote cross-team collaboration focused on taking end-to-end solutions to market and supporting go-live activities.
- Analyse product adoption and identify improvements to the customer journey when addressing new enhancement requests.
- Play an active role in addressing system hygiene, and mitigate future hygiene issues by consistently producing high-quality code.
- Adhere to coding standards and stay current with technology trends and best practices.
- Take part in the code review process to a high standard.
- Define a personalised continuous learning path that supports your career growth.
- Use AI tools to support development activities — code generation, testing, debugging, and optimisation — and apply them to automate repetitive tasks and improve quality.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML capabilities where appropriate, and maintain awareness of emerging AI trends and best practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 3 years of professional industry experience, operating consistently at a mid-level engineering standard.
- Full stack development experience.
- Proficiency in at least one programming language, plus knowledge of software design principles, development tools, frameworks, and domains in use.
- Experience with web application development.
- Strong understanding of software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, and testing.
- Proficient knowledge of code versioning tools such as Git.
- Ability to collaborate with others in a professional and respectful manner.
- Based in Melbourne and able to work from the Melbourne office three days per week.
Desired
- Production experience with Ruby on Rails.
- Node-based backend experience: TypeScript and Node.js.
- Modern client-side JavaScript frameworks, particularly React (Angular, Knockout, or similar also considered).
- Salesforce development experience will be considered on its merits.
- Agile software development experience.
The pay range for this role is based on relative market data and alignment with our compensation philosophy. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum of the pay range for each job posting, which is used to determine new hire rates/salaries and takes into consideration multiple factors including but not limited to knowledge, skills, abilities, proficiencies, experience, education, licensures/certifications, as well as business and organizational needs. nCino reserves the right to modify the posted range consistent with our internal practices and external market movement. The base salary range for this job is:
$79,500 - $127,200 AUD
