About the Field CTO role
The Field CTO plays a critical role in helping enterprise organisations define and execute modern transformation strategies centred around AI, modern software engineering and digital product innovation.
This is a highly strategic, client-facing leadership role focused on executive advisory, AI-enabled transformation, solution shaping and market development. The successful candidate will work closely with senior business and technology stakeholders to identify where AI can create measurable business value, modernise enterprise technology landscapes, and reshape customer and operational experiences.
You will combine commercial acumen, strategic thinking and deep engineering credibility to help clients evolve from traditional digital transformation programmes toward intelligent, AI-enabled enterprises.
The ideal candidate is naturally curious, commercially minded and deeply customer-focused. They are equally comfortable leading executive discussions on AI strategy and organisational change as they are engaging deeply with architects, engineers and delivery teams on implementation approaches.
Core Responsibilities
AI Strategy & Enterprise Transformation
- Advise enterprise customers on how to adopt and operationalise AI in ways that create measurable business impact
- Lead executive workshops and discovery engagements focused on AI strategy, intelligent automation, developer productivity, modernisation and digital transformation
- Help organisations identify high-value AI opportunities across customer experience, operations, software delivery and internal platforms
- Shape transformation roadmaps that combine AI, cloud, data and modern engineering practices into practical execution strategies
- Guide customers through the organisational, operational and technology changes required to become AI-enabled businesses
Strategic Advisory & Executive Engagement
- Build trusted advisor relationships with CIOs, CTOs, CDOs and senior business stakeholders
- Facilitate strategic conversations around innovation, modernisation, operating models and emerging technology adoption
- Translate complex business and technology challenges into actionable transformation programmes and investment priorities
- Help clients define measurable business outcomes, success metrics and value frameworks for strategic initiatives
Solution Strategy & Modern Engineering
- Shape complex solution strategies spanning AI-enabled products, intelligent platforms, cloud modernisation and digital experiences
- Collaborate with engineering, product, design and delivery teams to define differentiated, scalable and commercially viable solutions
- Drive experience-led modernisation approaches that improve agility, resilience, speed to market and customer outcomes
- Ensure solution strategies align to modern engineering principles, platform thinking and scalable delivery models
Growth & Commercial Leadership
- Support the growth of strategic customer accounts through trusted advisory and value-led engagement
- Shape strategic pursuits, proposals and large-scale opportunities across AI, modernisation and digital transformation
- Develop compelling business cases and outcome narratives that clearly articulate ROI, operational impact and strategic value
- Partner with Client Principals and delivery leaders to identify expansion opportunities and long-term growth strategies
Market Development & Thought Leadership
- Stay close to developments across AI, cloud, developer tooling, platform engineering and enterprise technology trends
- Contribute to Nearform’s market propositions, strategic partnerships and thought leadership across AI and modern engineering
- Help shape new offerings and go-to-market strategies based on evolving enterprise customer needs
- Represent Nearform externally through workshops, events, industry conversations and strategic customer engagements
Experience & Capabilities
Consulting & Executive Advisory
- Significant experience in consulting, digital transformation or enterprise technology services
- Proven ability to engage and influence senior technology and business leaders
- Experience shaping strategic transformation initiatives and complex services engagements
- Strong commercial instincts with the ability to connect technology strategy to business value
- Comfortable operating in fast-moving, ambiguous and high-growth environments
AI & Modern Technology
- Strong understanding of the practical application of AI within enterprise environments
- Experience helping organisations adopt AI, automation or intelligent platform capabilities to improve business or engineering outcomes
- Deep understanding of modern software engineering and enterprise technology transformation
- Strong foundation in software engineering, architecture or technical delivery, ideally beginning your career as an engineer or developer
Experience across areas such as:
- AI-enabled software delivery and developer productivity
- Intelligent automation and enterprise AI adoption
- Cloud-native engineering and platform modernisation
- Digital product development and customer experience
- DevOps, platform engineering and SRE
- Data platforms, analytics and modern application architecture
- Product operating models and agile delivery
- Open-source technologies and modern development ecosystems
Business & Transformation
- Strong understanding of business case development, value creation and strategic investment planning
- Ability to connect AI and technology initiatives to operational efficiency, customer value and commercial impact
- Experience building executive narratives, transformation roadmaps and outcome frameworks
- Excellent facilitation, communication and storytelling skills
Industry Experience
- Experience working with enterprise organisations across sectors such as retail, financial services, healthcare, public sector or technology
- Appreciation of the operational, regulatory and technical complexities within large organisations

Our Interview Process
1. Talent Call (30 mins, Zoom)
An introductory conversation with a member of our Talent Team to learn more about your background, experience, and career goals. We'll also provide a high-level overview of Nearform and answer any questions you may have. This step helps us assess initial alignment.
2. Technical Discussion (1 hour, Zoom)
A conversation with the Global Solutions Director focused on technical expertise and experience, client collaboration, and technical problem-solving in an enterprise development setting. We'll also share more details about Nearform and the potential projects you may join.
3. Panel Final Interview (1.5 hours, Zoom)
A conversation with leaders across Solutions, Delivery and Sales, focusing on your approach to collaborating with senior business and technology stakeholders to establish strong partnerships and drive business value through technology.
