Finance Associate
The Opportunity
Nearwater Capital is expanding its Dublin footprint and is seeking an organized Financial Accountant to join its Global Accounting/Finance team. This is a hands-on role at the center of the firm's day-to-day operational accounting, covering everything from P&L production to IFRS financial statements to regulatory reporting.
You'll work closely with internal stakeholders across the business to make sure the right accounting treatment is applied, and you'll play a real part in building out new workflows as the team transitions to a new accounting infrastructure. It's a role with variety and weight: the reporting you produce feeds directly into how the firm manages capital, risk, and regulatory obligations.
This is a strong fit for someone who wants ownership over their area, exposure to complex financial products, and a seat at the table as the accounting function modernizes.
What You’ll Do
- Preparation of daily, monthly and quarterly P&L production and analysis, including P&L attribution.
- Preparation of Audited Financial Statements under IFRS GAAP.
- Performing accounting activities related to trading activity, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
- Performing accounting activities, including the preparation, maintenance, and reconciliation of general ledger accounts for trading accounts as well as assisting with budgeting and forecasting.
- Submission of Class 2 MiFID Investment Firm Regulatory Reports to Central Bank of Ireland, including periodic FINREP Reports, IFREP (Own Funds) Report, Monthly Matrix Report.
- Assistance with preparation of ICARA (capital adequacy assessment), Recovery Plan and Investment Products Templates.
- Assisting with continuous automation and process improvement as well as ad hoc requests and special projects.
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years of relevant professional experience
- Recognised accounting qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CPA Ireland, or CIMA)
- Hedge Fund, Banking, Big Four or relevant industry experience preferred
- Investment accounting/financial product experience is required
- Experience with Class 2 MiFID Investment Firm regulatory reporting (e.g., FINREP, IFREP, ICARA) is strongly preferred
- Excellent time and self-management skills, ability to prioritize and multitask to meet deadlines
- Strong Excel skills, ability to work with large datasets
- Excellent communications skills: articulate, persuasive, and thoughtful
What You’ll Get
- A front-row seat to Nearwater’s move to a new accounting infrastructure, with real input into the workflows and controls the Global Accounting/Finance team will run on going forward.
- Broad exposure across P&L production, IFRS financial statement preparation, and regulatory reporting to the Central Bank of Ireland, including FINREP, IFREP, and ICARA work.
- Direct collaboration with colleagues across Risk, Finance, Operations, and Compliance, and visibility into how those functions run in a small firm environment.
- The ability to help shape the design of developing new business segments as Nearwater continues to expand across Dublin, London, Toronto, and New York.
How You Work
- You are organized and self-managed, able to prioritize and multitask across daily, monthly, and quarterly deadlines without letting anything slip.
- You're comfortable with large datasets and strong in Excel, and you look for ways to bring automation and process improvement into your day-to-day work.
- You communicate clearly and persuasively, whether you're documenting a control, explaining an accounting treatment, or working through an ad hoc request.
- You collaborate naturally with stakeholders across the business, and you're comfortable building new workflows rather than just maintaining existing ones.
- You bring rigor and attention to detail to regulatory and financial reporting, understanding the accuracy of your work carries real weight.
