Director, Technical Architecture and Development

United States

Role Description

The Director, Technical Architecture and Development is a right hand to Neocol’s Managing Director of Technical Architecture and Development. You will share the load of leading our architects and developers: setting technical direction on client engagements, keeping delivery on track, driving internal initiatives, and developing the people around you. You will take full ownership of the areas assigned to you and see them through without needing to be managed.

This role suits an experienced consulting architect who already leads by example and is ready to step into director-level leadership. Roughly half of your time will be billable, working hands-on as an architect and providing technical oversight across one or more client engagements. The rest goes to pre-sales leadership, internal initiatives, and helping to lead the team. You will work across all of our delivery teams and portfolios, and as the practice grows, teams are expected to roll up to this role.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

  • Set and uphold technical standards across client engagements, including solution design, security, performance, data, integration, and deployment approach.
  • Solution and drive Revenue Lifecycle Management transformations.
  • Review solution designs, architectural blueprints, and code, and give clear, practical guidance to architects and developers.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to business stakeholders, bringing best practices for security, performance, development process, and application governance.
  • Design solutions and integrations with systems such as ERP, CRM, and billing platforms.
  • Serve as an escalation point for complex technical problems, and step in as a hands-on architect where an engagement needs it.

Delivery Leadership

  • Oversee the quality of delivery on assigned projects, including solution design, build quality, and deployment readiness.
  • Identify technical risks and delivery pain points early, raise them with the project team and the Managing Director, and drive mitigation.
  • Manage client expectations and work through complex problems with clients and third-party partners.
  • Support scoping, estimation, and technical staffing for engagements, working with delivery and project management leads.
  • Partner with architects, project managers, and developers so that solutions are well rounded and delivered as designed.

Pre-Sales and Internal Initiatives

  • Lead pre-sales technical solutioning, scoping, and customer conversations, including joint pursuits with Salesforce.
  • Lead internal initiatives from plan to completion, such as new offerings, tooling, and process improvements.
  • Support the build and maintenance of Neocol’s IP and reusable asset library, including delivery templates, best practices, case studies, and point-of-view papers.
  • Help recruit and onboard technical team members, including interviewing candidates.
  • Identify business and technical process gaps and work with others to close them.

People Leadership and Mentorship

  • Train, coach, and mentor developers and architects on technical skills and soft skills.
  • Help team members plan their growth from developer to solution architect and toward certifications.
  • Use code and design reviews as a way to teach, and run enablement sessions on topics such as cross-cloud architecture and Revenue Cloud.

Qualification Requirements

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience working on the Salesforce platform building and architecting technical solutions.
  • Consulting experience is required, including client-facing delivery at a Salesforce partner or consultancy.
  • Hands-on experience solutioning and delivering Revenue Cloud / Revenue Lifecycle Management implementations.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role, such as technical lead, lead architect, or team lead, including managing or mentoring other team members.
  • Pre-sales experience, including technical solutioning, scoping, and estimation.
  • Platform Developer I and II and at least one architect-level certification. Progress toward Certified Technical Architect is a plus.
  • Experience designing multi-cloud architectures and integrations using REST, SOAP, and event-driven patterns with ERP, CRM, and other enterprise systems.
  • Strong working knowledge of Apex, Lightning Web Components, and JavaScript, with the ability to review code and guide others on it. You do not need to be the strongest coder on the team, but you do need to be credible to the developers on it.
  • Strong understanding of Git and GitHub, and of deploying complex changes across environments.
  • Experience with Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methodologies and the full software development lifecycle.
  • Working knowledge of how consulting engagements run, including SOWs, margins, and utilization.
  • Based in the United States and able to work US business hours.

Key Competencies

  • Executive presence and strong customer-facing skills, including leading requirements workshops, design presentations, and architecture discussions.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, with regular client interaction through email and video conferencing.
  • Ability to manage several workstreams or clients at once.
  • Strong time management, critical thinking, and organizational skills, and a track record of reliability.
  • Ownership and an entrepreneurial mindset: a self-starter who wants to shape the role and grow the practice, and who works well independently and in a group.
  • High standards of integrity, trustworthiness, and honesty, with a positive attitude.
