Product Software Engineer - Power Electronics
Aerospace is at a turning point — costs are rising, supply chains are strained, and old ways of building can’t keep up. At Neon Aero, we’re breaking that mold. We move fast, think big, and combine start-up agility with aerospace expertise to design, build, and scale aircraft in ways the industry has never seen. Our team leverages automation, AI-driven tools, and a fully connected digital backbone to accelerate innovation and reduce barriers to production.
Here, you won’t just take a job — you’ll help reinvent how the world flies. If you’re ready to solve complex problems, push technology further, and work alongside some of the brightest minds in aerospace, this is your chance to make a real impact.
The Product Software Engineer is responsible for delivering software and firmware at both the platform and application level for power electronic products, and for supporting software verification activities from unit-level to full system integration.
Why This Role Matters:
- Design, implement, and optimize embedded software and firmware for motor control systems (e.g., PMSM, BLDC) and power conversion systems (such as DC/DC or distributed embedded controllers), focusing on real-time algorithm implementation (e.g., FOC, PID, DTC).
- Develop platform software interfaces for motor control deployment, including middleware, device drivers, and RTOS integration.
- Develop and validate software and control algorithms through lab testing and data analysis.
- Integrate and validate communication protocols (e.g., CAN 2.0 FD, DroneCAN) for motor controllers.
- Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, and systems teams to ensure robust system designs for the designated software platforms.
- Author and maintain technical documentation and revision control, track bugs, and actively participate in code reviews.
- Perform software troubleshooting, performance tuning, and bring-up activities during system integration in laboratory and field environments.
- Undertake additional responsibilities as needed to support team and project success.
What you'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field (preferred but not required); equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 4+ years of experience in embedded software development for motor control applications.
- Proficiency in embedded C/C++ for real-time systems, including experience with debugging and optimization.
- Hands-on experience implementing software on motor control DSPs or microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, TI C2000) for electromechanical or power conversion products.
- Solid understanding of control theory, signal processing, and power electronics.
- Knowledge of safety-critical and aviation or automotive compliance standards, such as DO-178C, ARP4754, and ARP4761.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink), and methodologies such as hardware-in-the-loop (HIL), software-in-the-loop (SIL), and model-in-the-loop (MIL) testing.
- Experience with integration testing, hardware-in-the-loop setups, and multidisciplinary environments.
- Strong analytical skills, a proven problem-solving ability, and clear technical communication.
- Familiarity with system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink), HIL, and SIL testing.
- Expertise in root cause analysis and performance optimization.
Why Join Us:
- Work alongside elite engineering talent and innovators from across aerospace and tech
- Be part of a team moving faster than the industry standard
- Shape solutions that are lower-cost, autonomous, and scalable – the future of aviation
- Competitive compensation - including equity participation, growth opportunities, and full benefits (health, dental, vision, 401k) designed to support you in and out of work.
