TITLE: Clinical Development Engineering Co-op, Robotics
DURATION: 6 months minimum
START DATE: May/June 2025
POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a current undergraduate or graduate student for a role as an engineering co-op on our Clinical Development Engineering Robotics team. A Clinical Development Engineering Co-op works closely with product development teams and clinicians to evaluate product designs from early feasibility to clinical trials to commercialization. Their primary focus is to understand user needs, establish clinical requirements, consider clinical risks, and identify solutions to guide product development. The ideal candidate would demonstrate the ability to meet and exceed the below requirements, would show a high level of individual responsibility, and would act with passion and intensity in a fast-paced and collaborative medical device start-up. This position will be a paid co-op during the summer and fall of 2025, approximately 6 months in duration.
ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct evaluations with internal and/or external test participants, analyze data, and draw conclusions as input to product design and development.
- Develop test models and test methods for clinical product evaluations.
- Assess clinical risks and propose mitigations as input to product design and development.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop knowledge of procedural tasks.
- Work well both independently and as part of a fast-moving, collaborative team.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Undergraduate majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical / Biomechanical Engineering. Related majors are acceptable, but you should be able to convince us that you have the appropriate skills and interest to meet the job requirements.
- Experience in a OR/procedure room setting and collaborating with physicians or users.
- Experience in designing and working with pre-clinical models for product evaluations.
- Fluent in medical terminology and sound knowledge of anatomy.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and fabrication methods such as machining, injection molding, and 3D printing.
- Inventive and balanced with discipline and attention to detail.
- A self-starter needing minimal supervision and able to adapt priorities in a fast paced, dynamic product development team.
- A demonstrated desire to play an important role in a small, lean, medical device start-up.
- Willing to work on-site during normal business hours.
Neptune Medical is located in Burlingame, CA, near the Millbrae Caltrain and BART station.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. This is a non-exempt, hourly role and the starting base salary for this role is between $31/hour and $38/hour depending on experience. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role will also be eligible for 401(K) with matching.
