TITLE: Process Development Engineering (NPI) Co-op
DURATION: 6 months minimum
START DATE: Winter/Spring/Summer 2026
POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a current undergraduate or master’s student for a role as a Process Development Engineering Co-op for our robotics Manufacturing Engineering NPI (New Product Introduction) Team. The ideal candidate for this internship would demonstrate the ability to meet and exceed the below requirements, would show a high level of individual responsibility, and would act with passion and intensity in a fast-paced and collaborative medical device start-up.
ESSENTIAL CANDIDATE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with process development and optimization activities to support manufacturing scale up for verification and validation testing.
- Develop test methods, protocols and reports to evaluate components, systems, and processes.
- Create test reports that clearly present data that was reliably collected and analyzed.
- Design, build, test, and evolve manufacturing fixtures, including test fixtures.
- Create novel ideas/processes to be implemented into the manufacturing process.
- Build many devices that can be used for design and manufacturing optimization.
- CAD components and assemblies in Solidworks
- Create/update manufacturing methods & documentation, including Manufacturing Process Instructions, Lot History Records, and Bills of Materials.
- Perform analytical calculations.
- Work closely with vendors.
- Design and assemble manufacturing equipment.
- Work well both independently and as part of a fast-moving, collaborative team.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Current undergraduate or master’s student majoring in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering. Related majors are acceptable. Applicants must be returning to finish their education after the duration of the co-op.
- Significant hands-on engineering experience.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and fabrication methods such as machining, injection molding, and 3D printing.
- Familiarity working in a controlled manufacturing environment with a strong desire to spend time alongside technicians to develop manufacturing processes and investigate product defects.
- Inventive and balanced with discipline and attention to detail.
- A demonstrated desire to play an important role in a medical device start-up.
- Good communication skills.
- Willing to commit to at least 10 to 12 weeks, ideally longer. Expectation is to work on-site during normal business hours.
Neptune Medical is located in Burlingame, CA, near the Millbrae Caltrain and BART station.
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting hourly rate for this role is between $31 and $38 per hour depending on experience. The actual hourly rate is dependent upon many factors, such as education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The hourly rate pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for 401(K) with matching.
