Quality Specialist

Torrance, California, United States

Who we are

Neros is a defense technology company rebuilding America’s drone industrial base. We design and manufacture high-performance unmanned systems that are tested in combat, iterated at startup speed, and built at massive scale. Our team culture is fast, hands-on, and obsessed with closing the gap between design and deployment.

As drones transform the character of warfare, Neros is delivering the systems the West needs to compete on the modern battlefield and deter the adversaries of democracy.

What you will be doing

Our mission is to build a million drones a year here in America, and the production line that builds them needs an embedded quality resource: the specialist. As a Quality Specialist, you will be proficient in inspection, measurement, and quality systems and will be trusted to develop and improve them as well as train others in them.

This is the role that blends the best of both inspector and engineer, resulting in highly skilled hands-on expertise with engineering judgement and authority. You inspect to drawings and procedures, but you also write the inspection plans. You verify production builds, but you also define how a new product gets inspected before anyone has built it. When a defect shows up, you’re the one who contains it, and then you make sure it doesn’t escape the same way twice.

If you’ve spent years on a production floor learning quality inspection and engineering, and you want to build something that matters with high ownership and hands-on engagement, this is your role.

Responsibilities

  • Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections on mechanical, electrical, and PCBA assemblies against drawings, specifications, and workmanship standards
  • Measure and verify parts and assemblies with precision tools (calipers, micrometers, height and pin gauges, optical comparators, and vision systems) and interpret GD&T on engineering drawings
  • Triage non-conforming product on the line, then contain, document, and lead MRB disposition with engineering and production
  • Write and maintain inspection plans, verification criteria, checklists, and quality work instructions for new and existing products
  • Support NPI through design and process reviews, PFMEA, and control plan development, establishing inspection points before product hits rate
  • Watch quality data (yield, defect Pareto, escapes, SPC) and flag trends before they become line-down events or field failures
  • Own calibration of inspection and measurement equipment and maintain quality records and traceability
  • Train operators and technicians on inspection criteria, workmanship standards, and quality procedures, and support internal and customer audits

You should have the following

  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • 5+ years of hands-on quality inspection or quality engineering experience in a manufacturing production environment
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, work instructions, and controlled documentation, including GD&T
  • Proficiency with precision measurement tools and inspection methods
  • Experience documenting nonconformances and driving root cause and corrective action
  • Experience with MES/ERP quality modules, NCR systems, and electronic records
  • Proficiency in SQL, including querying production databases to pull quality metrics and build dashboards

Nice to have

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, math, or science discipline
  • Electronics inspection certification (IPC-A-610 and J-STD-001) or cable and harness inspection certification (IPC/WHMA-A-620)
  • Experience in an AS9100 or ISO 9001 quality management system, ideally in aerospace or defense manufacturing
  • CMM programming (PC-DMIS, Calypso) or automated vision inspection experience
  • SPC and process capability (Cpk) analysis
  • PCBA/SMT inspection experience: AOI, X-ray, solder joint evaluation
