Film Teacher [2026-27 school year]

Position Summary

Newark Academy is seeking a professional to serve the role of Film Production Teacher. This is a full-time position starting in August 2026. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to expand a developing film program for an active and robust Performing and Visual Arts Department, with primary responsibilities teaching video production, editing, cinematography techniques, graphic design, movie sound engineering, visual communication strategies, and preferably basic VFX. The candidate should be proficient with Mac platforms and have a required hands-on experience in industry standard softwares.

Essential to the role is a strong work ethic centered on excellent organizational skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships and communications with all students, colleagues, families and administrators.


Responsibilities include:

  • Prepare and deliver expert instruction in filmmaking (e.g. pre-production, cinematography, screenwriting, storyboards, editing, color grading), film criticism, and film history. 
  • Complete IB training and all necessary course requirements for the IB Film class
  • Demonstrate care, maintenance and operation of all equipment to students
  • Oversee inventory of film equipment, materials and systemizing storage of class projects via drives, and cloud storage
  • Creating school events to showcase students' work to the community, ex. Film Festival, collaboration with theater program, dance, music, etc.
  • Create video content in collaboration with Marketing and Communications for use by Newark Academy to  capture and represent the school and its community

Teaching Responsibilities May Include:

  • 7th & 8th Grade Film
  • Upper School Intro to Filmmaking
  • IB/Advanced Filmmaking

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required (BFA is useful, but not required); Master’s degree is preferred
  • Experience working with and supporting a diverse community of students, parents and colleagues
  • Experience in the film industry
  • Willingness and ability to work thoughtfully with adolescent students
  • Demonstrated time management skills; ability to prioritize support requests, work on multiple tasks with minimal supervision, and escalate support requests as necessary to ensure that all projects are completed within acceptable timeframes
  • Hands-on experience with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects and preferably Davinci Resolve, Unreal Engine and Cinema 4D
  • Exemplary attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Availability for some after-school and weekend recording sessions
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Experience working in independent schools is preferred but not required 

Salary range $65,000 - $85,000. Salary is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to education and experience.
