Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced Wireless Network Engineer to design, implement, manage, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise wireless and wired network environments. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Cisco wireless technologies, Cisco Wireless Controllers, Access Points, 802.11 protocols, wireless security, Cisco ISE, RF fundamentals, and wireless site surveys using Ekahau. This role will also support wired LAN/WAN infrastructure and requires strong troubleshooting skills using tools such as Wireshark, Cisco Catalyst center, Cisco Prime, and syslog. The Wireless Network Engineer will work closely with network engineering, security, infrastructure, and other IT teams to ensure reliable, secure, and high-performing network connectivity.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, implement, and maintain scalable and secure enterprise wireless (802.11) and wired LAN/WAN networks.
  • Configure, manage, and troubleshoot Cisco Wireless Controllers, including Cisco Catalyst 9800 series platforms.
  • Configure and support Cisco wireless Access Points and related network infrastructure.
  • Perform wireless network assessments and RF site surveys using tools such as Ekahau.
  • Analyse wireless coverage, capacity, interference, channel utilization, signal strength, and other RF characteristics.
  • Troubleshoot wireless connectivity, performance, authentication, roaming, and availability issues.
  • Monitor network health, availability, and performance using Cisco Catalyst Centre, Cisco Prime, and other network management tools.
  • Identify network performance issues and implement tuning and optimization to improve reliability and user experience.
  • Implement and maintain wireless security and network access control using technologies such as Cisco ISE/NAC.
  • Troubleshoot network security and authentication issues involving wireless clients and network access.
  • Analyze network traffic and troubleshoot complex connectivity issues using Wireshark and packet captures.
  • Review and analyze syslog and network event information to identify the root cause of incidents.
  • Troubleshoot network outages, latency, packet loss, connectivity problems, and wireless performance issues.
  • Support routing and switching infrastructure as required for wireless network deployments.
  • Collaborate with network, security, infrastructure, application, and other IT teams to resolve issues and deliver network solutions.
  • Participate in network implementation, upgrades, migrations, and infrastructure changes.
  • Document network configurations, troubleshooting activities, site survey results, and implemented solutions.
  • Follow established network security, change management, and operational procedures.
  • Provide technical support and participate in incident resolution and root-cause analysis.
  • Recommend improvements to network architecture, performance, security, and reliability.

 

Required Technical Skills

Cisco Wireless

  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco wireless platforms.
  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC).
  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst 9800 series wireless controllers.
  • Strong knowledge of Cisco wireless Access Points and enterprise wireless deployments.
  • Understanding of wireless controller, AP, WLAN, SSID, roaming, authentication, and RF configurations.

 Wireless Networking

  • Strong understanding of 802.11 wireless standards and protocols, including:
    • 802.11a
    • 802.11b
    • 802.11g
    • 802.11n
    • 802.11ac
    • 802.11ax
  • Strong understanding of wireless networking concepts, RF fundamentals, coverage, capacity, interference, channels, and signal strength.
  • Experience troubleshooting wireless connectivity and performance issues.

 Wireless Site Surveys / RF

  • Hands-on experience performing wireless site surveys.
  • Experience with Ekahau or similar wireless survey tools.
  • Ability to analyze RF coverage and identify interference and coverage gaps.
  • Ability to recommend AP placement and wireless configuration improvements based on survey results.

 Network Routing & Switching

  • Strong understanding of enterprise LAN/WAN networking.
  • Knowledge of routing and switching concepts and protocols.
  • Ability to troubleshoot connectivity between wireless and wired network environments.
  • Understanding of VLANs, IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, and network connectivity concepts is preferred.

 Network Management & Troubleshooting

  • Experience with Cisco Catalyst Centre.
  • Experience with Cisco Prime or similar network management platforms.
  • Strong packet-level troubleshooting experience using Wireshark.
  • Experience analyzing syslog and network logs.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex network incidents and determine root cause.

 Network Security

  • Experience with Cisco ISE and Network Access Control (NAC).
  • Understanding of wireless authentication and security.
  • Experience troubleshooting network access and authentication issues.
  • Familiarity with enterprise network security and firewall technologies.

 Required Qualifications

  • Proven professional experience in wireless network engineering and enterprise networking.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Cisco wireless technologies.
  • Experience designing, implementing, troubleshooting, and supporting enterprise wireless networks.
  • Experience with wireless site surveys and RF analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical issues.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional IT teams.

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Cisco wireless-related certifications such as CCNA, CCNP Enterprise, or equivalent experience.
  • Ekahau certification or formal wireless/RF training.
  • Experience working in large enterprise network environments.
  • Experience with network monitoring and automation tools.
  • Experience supporting large-scale wireless deployments, migrations, or upgrades.

 Soft Skills

What You Will Do in This Role

In this role, you will be responsible for keeping enterprise wireless and wired networks secure, reliable, and performing at their best. You will work hands-on with Cisco wireless infrastructure, perform RF/site surveys, troubleshoot complex network problems, analyze packet captures, support network security and authentication, and collaborate with other IT teams to deliver reliable network services.
