Controller

Reporting to the CFO, this position will lead and drive Newlab’s global accounting functions and reporting framework in its entirety while we continue to expand. The Controller will be involved with other elements of Newlab’s finance and operations orgs and will regularly communicate with the executive leadership team. Crucial to this role are strong accounting skills, organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, a talent for clear verbal and written communication, a strong sense of being a team player, and the ability to think critically. This role offers a unique opportunity to an individual who is seeking to gain experience in business administration, operations and financial reporting within a fast-paced startup environment. 

The Controller will be responsible for, but not limited to: 

  • Overseeing accounting functions for the Newlab locations; 
  • Establishing scalable processes: helping the development and implement of best-practice processes to help enable the finance and accounting team and business to further scale; 
  • Reviewing and analyzing segment P&Ls, balance sheets and cash flows; 
  • When applicable, building, training and leading the accounting team; 
  • Strategizing, designing, implementing and maintain effective accounting policies (GAAP), procedures and controls; 
  • Managing the treasury function, limiting risk and optimizing the financial result. 
  • Designing and creating or optimizing smart, pragmatic solutions for operational and reporting challenges 
  • Provide technical accounting subject matter expertise on the treatment of accounting transactions and related financial reporting requirements. 
  • Manage external and internal auditors, if/when applicable; 
  • Providinging leadership and experience to the Billing Coordinator; ● Support the buildout of a tax risk management process. 
  • Consolidating and communicating financial processes and results to the CFO;
  • Supporting CFO in various aspects of financial reporting, including quarterly and annual reports to investors and lenders; 

Knowledge, Skill, and Ability 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related discipline
  • 5 to 7 years of accounting experience in a senior accounting or financial management role 
  • CPA preferred;
  • A clear communicator -- able to effectively communicate financial performance and to enforce the rules in a tactful way; 
  • Experience at a high growth company is preferred; 
  • Public accounting experience is a plus; 
  • Strong analytical skills; 
  • High-energy, positive, detailed-oriented and passionate about excellence; ● Takes initiative to acquire new skills in order to improve performance; 
  • Ability to work independently as well as with a team; and 
  • Self-starter with a strong attention to detail.

Compensation is expected to be up to $200,000
