VP/SVP Commercialization
Newlab is seeking a Vice President (or SVP) of Commercialization, based out of our flagship location in Brooklyn, The VP will secure and oversee the execution of portfolios of commercialization projects tied to the locations areas of focus including Energy and Materials. The VP will oversee a team of talented professionals and be responsible for the development, planning, and execution of a diverse portfolio of industry-focused projects with startups, industry, and government partners. This role requires a strategic leader with significant experience and a deep technical and operational understanding of the Energy and/or Materials sector. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in guiding commercialization initiatives from concept through execution, and have experience structuring, negotiating and managing successful deals. Venture or early stage startup experience is a plus.
Role & Responsibilities
Strategy and Execution:
- Define and execute the commercialization and business development strategy, aligning with market trends and partner priorities
- Continuously refine the commercialization strategy and programmatic initiatives in Brooklyn based on location theses in line with sector trends, market dynamics, and the priorities
- Build and maintain deep relationships with strategic stakeholders across value chains aligned with location sectors of focus
- Leverage your network and domain expertise to support the integrated team in sourcing startups, structuring technical pilot projects, and underwriting investments
- Monitor, manage, and prioritize the locations portfolio of commercialization projects ensuring alignment with growth objectives
- Cultivate and manage key relationships with industry and government partners to maximize participation, engagement, and outcomes
- Manage the Commercialization P&L and make strategic resourcing decisions to maximize efficiency and outcomes
- Grow and mentor a talented team, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
- Continuously identify opportunities to optimize processes and scale operations effectively
- Initiate, structure, and negotiate partnerships to grow commercialization revenue
Business development:
- Drive awareness for our projects and programs through targeted thought-leadership and external engagement
- Build and maintain deep relationships with strategic stakeholders
- Initiate, structure, and negotiate partnerships to grow revenue and positively impact initiatives
Team leadership:
- Build and lead an integrated delivery team of commercial analysts, strategists, investors and engineers to execute a portfolio of pilot projects and early-stage investments
- Foster a collaborative and high-performing team culture within the team and across the company
Skills & Experience:
- Experience: 10+ years of experience in the energy, materials, or related industry, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or managerial role
- Master’s Degree preferred
- Strong leadership and strategic management skills
- In-depth knowledge of energy and/or materials operations, techniques, and industry best practices
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
- Effective communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience working in the energy and/or materials sectors, and/or strategy consulting, advisory, investment, or related roles with direct exposure to these industries
- Familiarity with the latest technologies and sustainable practices within the energy and materials sectors
- Strong network within the energy and/or materials industries
- Knowledge of engineering principles and in-depth understanding of industry best practices and compliance in the energy and/or materials sectors
Working Conditions:
- The position is based in Brooklyn, with working hours in line with local business practices
- This role may require additional travel
Compensation:
- $225,000-$260,000 DOE
