
Sr. Associate, Strategic Finance
Newlab is seeking a Sr. Associate, Strategic Finance, that is looking for a high-impact role for an analytically rigorous finance professional passionate about financial modeling and strategic decision support. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, you will be the core financial modeling resource and a key strategic partner, responsible for building and supporting the data-driven framework that guides executive decision-making.
You will act as the “eyes and ears” of the Finance department, diving deep into our data to forecast performance, understand variances, and translate operational realities into a robust, integrated financial plan. Crucially, you will also partner closely with Newlab’s Accounting function to ensure the integrity of our financial reporting and support the efficient delivery of our monthly close package.
This is an in-person position in our Brooklyn Navy Yard office.
Responsibilities
Financial Modeling & Strategic Analysis
- Own, build, and maintain the company's core integrated 3-statement financial model (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) to support the annual budget and quarterly forecasting processes.
- Develop dynamic financial models and pro formas to analyze strategic initiatives, including new revenue streams, partnership structures, and expansion scenarios.
- Conduct scenario planning and sensitivity analysis for potential new deals and business opportunities, including 3-statement analyses.
- Translate operational KPIs into accurate financial forecasts, explaining budget vs. actual variance and providing initial commentary on trends, risks, and opportunities.
Financial Reporting & Accounting Support
- Support the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes by preparing necessary schedules, analyses, and reconciliations.
- Assist in the preparation and delivery of monthly and quarterly reporting packages for the executive team and department leaders.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Finance and Accounting to ensure consistency between our financial models, operational reporting, and general ledger.
- Support data integrity by performing regular reconciliations between accounting (QuickBooks) and operational systems (billing, CRM, etc.) and implementing fixes to prevent recurrence.
- Help document and improve finance processes and systems to reduce manual work and improve speed and accuracy of financial data flows.
Business Partnership & Data Integrity
- Collaborate with Operations and other teams to gather assumptions, translate business plans into financial requirements, and ensure data consistency across the organization.
- Formalize data QA processes, including regular audits, to maintain financial data accuracy and reliability for reporting and modeling.
- Assist in vendor management and compliance activities as needed.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
- 3-4+ years of experience in a rigorous analytical role such as Investment Banking, Private Equity, Venture Capital, Corporate FP&A, or Transaction Services.
- Advanced to Expert level Excel/Google Sheets modeling skills with a proven ability to build robust, dynamic, and integrated 3-statement financial models from scratch.
- A solid foundation in accounting principles and financial statement analysis—you are comfortable working with GL data, supporting a financial close, and preparing reconciliations.
- A detail-oriented, analytical mind capable of synthesizing complex operational details into clear financial narratives.
- Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, managing competing priorities effectively.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting data clearly and concisely.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related quantitative field.
- A desire to learn and grow in a complex, fast-moving organization.
Preferred Experience
- Strong Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Trial Balances, and QBO reports is a plus
- Proven G-Suite or Microsoft Office Experience
- Experience in the startup ecosystem or other business working with multi-revenue-stream, matrixed business models
- ERP experience is a plus
The primary metrics of success for this role are:
- Developing high-quality, dynamic financial models, including 3-statement projections, that accurately forecast the business and support critical decisions across Newlab.
- Delivering clear and actionable insights to the Director of Finance and executive team.
- Consistent, high-quality support for the monthly and quarterly financial reporting and close process.
Compensation:
- $85,000-$100,000 base
