Civil Project Engineer II
New Leaf Energy is an experienced clean energy developer that partners with landowners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to accelerate the transition to a world powered by renewable energy. New Leaf Energy is seeking a Civil Project Engineer II to join our team! The Civil Project Engineer II will work alongside a team of engineers, project developers, and engineering consultants to review, design, and secure permits for solar PV and energy storage projects. The successful candidate will be expected to balance due diligence efforts with project risks to support the ongoing development of projects at New Leaf Energy.
This is a remote position based in central Virginia or Pennsylvania near the Virginia border.
Primary duties include, but are not limited to:
- Design, direct, and manage concurrent projects using either internal or external resources. Lead site review, zoning/bylaws review, and outline project entitlement path.
- Manage survey, environmental and engineering sub-consultants as well as working with staff engineers.
- Apply NLE’s Value Stream Map (VSM) to advance a project through design and entitlement.
- Identify, qualify and onboard surveyors and consultants to assist in project design and entitlement. Use project scheduling, task-management, KPI, QC, and other tools to ensure standards adherence, design quality and timeliness.
- Work with the state agencies, towns, and other stakeholders, as well as present to planning/zoning boards, state, and federal agencies.
- Develop project entitlement documentation as necessary (e.g., narratives, exhibits, appendices, etc.).
- Collaborate in the continued development of standard details, notes, specifications and SOPs.
- Reviewing design drawings and project bid sets prepared by in-house or external designers.
- Prepare the civil engineering components of project bid sets that will be used for the IPP bidding process.
- Respond to bidder permitting questions and participate in due diligence calls with project bidders.
- Coach early-career engineers.
Desired Qualifications
While no one individual will possess them all, the successful candidate will bring many of the following experiences, skills, and attributes. - 6-12 years experience in site development, entitlement, and environmental permitting (municipal, state, federal); Solar PV or energy storage experience desired.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in civil engineering.
- Active PE license, multiple states desired.
- Experience in cost estimation, reviewing engineering services contracts, managing subconsultants and project schedule management.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D and HYDROCAD (or equivalent design tools) proficiency desired; however, not required.
- Able to communicate design concepts and lead meetings between clients, engineers, regulatory officials, and consultants.
- Self-sufficiently manage multiple projects while being highly motivated, detailed, and organized.
- Passionate about renewable sources of energy.
Compensation
New Leaf Energy compensates all employees in three ways: market-competitive base salary, plus above-market variable compensation, plus an equity-like program such that all employees experience the benefits of ownership. We use a data-driven and transparent methodology to calibrate compensation that is externally competitive and internally equitable, guided by the New Leaf Energy compensation manual, which is available to all employees.
Under our compensation framework, the likely base salary range for this position is $117,360-$135,570. The on-target annual cash bonus associated with this position is an additional 20% percent of base salary. Your actual salary may be above, in, or below this range, depending on your location and experience. We value transparency and can share more during the interview process.
