Intern, Credit

New Mountain Capital is seeking to hire a full-time summer intern to join our Credit Analyst team in New York. This role will be involved in four core focus areas of the credit business, including Broadly Syndicated Loan investment underwriting and research, Direct Lending investment underwriting and research, portfolio monitoring, business development, and FP&A, while assisting the team in data management and AI-related initiatives on an ad-hoc basis. We are seeking highly motivated individuals who enjoy working on complex problems in a close team environment.

New Mountain’s credit strategy launched in 2008 to apply the Firm’s private equity investment philosophy to corporate lending opportunities. New Mountain’s credit strategy seeks to invest in businesses in the middle market that, consistent with the Firm’s private equity platform, are defensive growth companies in industries that are well-researched by New Mountain.

Responsibilities

Investment Due Diligence

1. Contribute to fundamental credit analysis for new issues or secondary opportunities for broadly syndicated loans and private credit loans
2. Research and analyze business drivers, market trends, key risks, and opportunities
3. Attend and take notes on expert calls and other deal-related calls
4. Assist with synthesis of deal review materials
5. Pitch buy / sell / hold recommendation for BSL secondary opportunities

Portfolio Company Performance Monitoring 

1. Support in preparation of financial update flash summaries and monitoring reports
2. Perform research on existing positions, especially in times of underperformance

 Business Development

1. Assist in completion of prospective and existing investor requests and reporting
2. Prospective investor research and call attendance with note taking

 Financial Planning & Analysis

1. 1. Assistance on quarterly and monthly valuation procedures
   2. Assistance with fund modeling
   3. Assistance on financing-related analyses

 

Ad-Hoc Strategic Initiative Support and Special Projects

• Improve data integrity and advance process optimization efforts leveraging AI
• Maintain databases of key investment metrics (both position-level and company-level)
• Assist in preparing various analyses for portfolio managers, lending partners, equity investors, credit ratings agencies, etc.

 

Required Qualifications

• Current Sophomore (2029) with a 3.5+ GPA
• Accounting and/or finance coursework, with knowledge of fundamental topics such as debt vs. equity investing, EBITDA and other key financial metrics, and the three financial statements
• Strong attention to detail
• Strong Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
• Interest in financial services (Interest in pursuing CPA or CFA track a plus)

This is a paid position - $25 per hour.
