Intern, Credit Data & Analytics

New York, NY

New Mountain’s credit team is building out its data & analytics function – a Sigma/Snowflake business intelligence stack and a growing set of internal AI tools supporting the team’s underwriting, monitoring, and reporting workflows. The role suits a student who wants direct exposure to how that infrastructure gets built, working directly on live, in-flight projects.

This is a six-month, full-time co-op (January – June 2027), at a minimum of 32 hours per week, in-person in our New York office; the team is in the office four days per week. This is a paid position.

Firm Background:

New Mountain Capital is an alternative investment manager with private equity, credit and net lease strategies, with aggregate assets under management totaling more than $60 billion. New Mountain Capital emphasizes intensive fundamental research and a growth-oriented, “value-add” investment approach. New Mountain was founded in 1999 and currently has over 275 employees.

New Mountain’s credit strategy launched in 2008 to apply the Firm’s private equity investment philosophy to corporate lending opportunities. New Mountain’s credit strategy seeks to invest in businesses in the middle market that, consistent with the Firm’s private equity platform, are defensive growth companies in industries that are well-researched by New Mountain.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Build and maintain Sigma dashboards and workbooks for credit reporting and portfolio monitoring – datasets, calculated fields, controls, and layout
  • Write and troubleshoot SQL against the Snowflake warehouse behind those dashboards
  • Prototype AI-tool automations for recurring, manual data problems across the credit team
  • Document finished workflows and tools so the team can maintain them independently

Portfolio Monitoring Support

  • Support preparation of financial update flash summaries and monitoring reports for portfolio companies

Qualifications:

  • Genuine interest in private equity, private credit, or finance – the role sits inside a live credit team
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Prior coursework, project, or co-op experience in finance, data, or analytics is a plus but not required
  • Experienced with Excel – comfortable with pivot tables, lookups, and large workbooks
  • Working familiarity with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Copilot) and interest in applying them to real workflows
  • Interest in learning SQL (Snowflake); prior expertise not required
  • Some exposure to Python or a similar scripting language
  • Exposure to a BI/dashboarding tool (Sigma, Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar)
  • Self-directed – comfortable scoping and building a solution with light supervision
  • Strong written communication – can document a workflow or explain a technical build to a non-technical stakeholder
  • Curiosity and comfort with ambiguity
  • Strong attention to detail

Academic Alignment:

Concentrations & Combined Degree Programs

  • Business Administration – Finance concentration
  • Business Administration – Business Analytics concentration
  • Data Science (BS), including combined majors (e.g., Data Science + Business Administration)
  • Computer Science (BS)

  • ACCT 1201 – Financial Accounting and Reporting
  • FINA 2201 – Financial Management
