Veterinary Assistant

Newport Veterinary Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team in a hybrid role that combines the responsibilities of a Kennel Assistant and a Veterinary Assistant. Salary: $14.50 - $16.50 per hour, determined by the candidate's skills, experience, and qualifications.
Schedule: This position offers a full-time schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, with every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) required.

Kennel Assistant Duties:
- Monitor the health and comfort of boarding animals and report any concerns
- Walk dogs and engage animals with play and enrichment activities
- Feed, water, and bathe pets as needed
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, food bowls, and litter boxes
- Perform general housekeeping and laundry duties
- Administer oral and topical medications, including flea/tick preventatives
- Assist with check-ins/outs for boarding pets and maintain accurate records
Veterinary Assistant Duties:
- Assist veterinarians and technicians during exams, treatments, and surgeries
- Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately
- Prepare exam rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment
- Collect lab samples (blood, urine, fecal) and assist with basic lab testing
- Administer medications and vaccines under veterinary supervision
- Communicate with pet owners about treatment plans and follow-ups
- Maintain medical records and ensure a clean, stocked, and organized clinic
Qualifications:
- At least 1 year of veterinary experience is preferred.
- Technical know-how in areas such as disinfection, administering medication, and using diagnostic equipment.
- Physical ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
