Software Engineer 2

Hyderabad, India

We are a global team of innovators and pioneers dedicated to shaping the future of observability. At New Relic, we build an intelligent platform that empowers companies to thrive in an AI-first world by giving them unparalleled insight into their complex systems. As we continue to expand our global footprint, we're looking for passionate people to join our mission. If you're ready to help the world's best companies optimize their digital applications, we invite you to explore a career with us!

Your Opportunity

At New Relic, we provide our customers real-time insights so they can innovate faster. Our software delivers insightful observability tools across different technologies and distributed systems, enabling software engineering teams to quickly identify, understand and solve issues, analyze performance and get the most of their software and infrastructure.

Are you passionate about reliability in distributed systems? Do you enjoy designing, implementing, and working on innovative tools to test and ensure system resilience? If so, New Relic wants to hear from you! We are looking for a passionate software engineer to join our core data group in Hyderabad. Your role will involve building and supporting the testing strategy that is central to the reliability of New Relic’s systems.

In this role, you will be at the core of New Relic’s engineering process. You will collaborate with teams responsible for developing, extending, and maintaining services that process millions of messages per second and handle petabytes of data. As part of the testing team, you will tackle challenging engineering problems, build tools to replicate scenarios, and rigorously test our systems to ensure their resilience.

What You’ll Do

  • You will join our new Testing Tooling team, whose mission is to build and maintain the tools for all engineering teams at New Relic to improve their reliability and resiliency.
  • As a member of the team, you will build and maintain our reliability and testing tools, providing these to each team so they can run and test them independently. You are not expected to run the tests yourself: Your role is to teach the teams to fish and give them a fish pole; not give them the fish.
  • Contribute with the team’s roadmap by identifying new opportunities.
  • Create automation and tooling for lowering the adoption barrier for the testing tooling.
  • Learn and contribute to design and development problems with the support of a world-class team covering your back.
  • Work with a distributed team with close collaboration with our other teams in Europe and the US.

Your Qualifications

Must-have:

  • You are an engineer with at least 2+ years of experience who can bring your learnings and career experience to bear on our roadmap.
  • You have some experience writing software in Java or Python, and are willing to learn and grow your engineering skills.
  • You are not afraid of adapting, learning and getting your hands dirty with different languages and frameworks.
  • You communicate easily in English.

Nice-to-have:

  • You thrive in a fast-paced environment focused on delivering production code at a regular cadence using Agile techniques, tools and methodologies.
  • You have a collaborative work style that includes colleagues in important decisions and leads to improve the product sharing ownership.
  • You are self-motivated, able to work both independently and as part of a distributed team, learn quickly, meet deadlines and demonstrate creative problem-solving skills.
  • You are not afraid to be on-call and ready to extinguish fires.
  • You have an interest in trying and learning new technologies.

Fostering a diverse, welcoming and inclusive environment is important to us. We work hard to make everyone feel comfortable bringing their best, most authentic selves to work every day. We celebrate our talented Relics’ different backgrounds and abilities, and recognize the different paths they took to reach us – including nontraditional ones. Their experiences and perspectives inspire us to make our products and company the best they can be. We’re looking for people who feel connected to our mission and values, not just candidates who check off all the boxes.
