Your opportunity

The Senior Engineering Manager, Dirac Query (Query Nexus) will lead a high-performing engineering team in Hyderabad, India, dedicated to the development, scalability, and execution of batch query processing capabilities. This role is crucial in shaping the entry points, gateway, and batch engine parts of the Dirac Query platform.This position requires a leader who is both technically exceptional in high-performance distributed systems and deeply committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful, and collaborative culture across North America and India. 

What you'll do

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Drive Engineering Excellence: Lead the technical strategy, design, execution for the Dirac Query systems, and consistent predictable on-time delivery.

  • Robust Platform Development: Ensure high-availability, scalability, and robust performance of query gateway APIs and execution frameworks.

  • Best Practices: Establish and uphold high engineering standards, including thorough code reviews, robust testing, continuous integration, and comprehensive documentation, and efficient software development processes.

People Management & Coaching

  • Nurture High-Performing Talent: Manage, mentor, and coach a highly skilled local team of Senior Software Engineers, supporting their career growth, setting clear goals, and providing continuous feedback.

  • Strategic Recruiting: Partner with local recruiting teams to hire and onboard top-tier engineering talent, scaling the Hyderabad engineering hub sustainably.

  • Professional Development: Guide individual contributors (including Senior and Lead levels) to help them achieve their professional goals and technical potential.

Cultural & Split-Team Collaboration

  • Bridging Timezones & Geographies: Establish seamless, respectful communication patterns with North American and European based teams.

  • Asynchronous-First Communication: Champion an asynchronous-first culture, ensuring that major discussions, design proposals, and key decisions are well-documented (e.g., in Confluence) so that all team members can contribute regardless of location.

  • Foster Inclusivity: Respect and bridge regional, cultural, and timezone differences, cultivating high psychological safety, mutual trust, and shared accountability.

Execution & Delivery

  • Product Alignment: Partner closely with Product Management, Program Management, and global stakeholders to define the roadmap, deliverables, success metrics, and milestones.

  • Delivery Excellence: Ensure sustainable staffing, clear prioritization, and efficient, high-quality project delivery.

This role requires:

Technical & Professional Qualifications:

  • Distributed Systems Expertise: Deep technical background in building, operating, and scaling high-throughput, low-latency distributed database engines, query compilers and planners, or complex data pipelines.

  • Architecture & API Design: Proven experience designing robust gateway components, entry points, and high-performance query execution layers.

  • Engineering Leadership: 5+ years of experience managing high-performing engineering teams with a proven track record of shipping complex, mission-critical platform initiatives.

  • Coaching Senior Talent: Demonstrated ability to guide, challenge, and inspire senior-level individual contributors (Senior and Lead levels).

  • Education: Bachelor‘s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
