Video Operator
The Video Operator (“VO”) is responsible for verifying that the “All29” camera is properly set before every play and making necessary adjustments during the play, identifying replays on the broadcast feed for the Replay Official, and ensuring that the clock properly starts and stops on the broadcast feed. The Replay Official may assign additional duties to the VO on a game-to-game basis. The VO must be aware of the events of the game, have a strong understanding of the rules of the game, and be able to work under pressure.
VOs will be provided with contact information for home replay booth personnel and will also be provided contact information for all Replay Officials (RO) and Replay Assistants (RA).
Timeline
3:00 before kickoff
- Go to the Replay Booth for pregame equipment tests.
- Meet with RO and RA regarding pregame timeline upon their arrival at the officials’ locker room. Escort the Replay team to the booth if needed. All GDA personnel should be respectful of the on-field officials locker room and are restricted from entering at any time.
2:00 before kickoff
- Must be in the replay booth with the RA for the two-hour replay equipment test with RO (on the field) and the AMGC (in New York). Contact AMGC when the RO starts walking onto the field to confirm that someone will be online for the test.
- Familiarize yourself with the equipment and confirm that it is operating properly.
1:00 before kickoff
- Must be in the replay booth with all booth personnel to perform the 50-minute replay equipment test with the Referee, RO/RA, and AMGC Technician (New York).
- Sometime before or after the “50 Minute Test” the RO will conduct a short pregame discussion with all replay booth personnel. Pay close attention during this discussion so that you understand specific requests and points of emphasis for your role.
0:15 before kickoff
- Must be in the replay booth for final pregame preparations.
During the game
- Verify that the “All29” camera is properly set before every play and adjust if necessary. The "All 29” camera has three primary presets depending on field position. These presets should be used to set the camera angle before each play. If officials, players, or the ball moves out of the All29 camera frame, adjust the frame as necessary so they are included. The All29 should always include all 22 players on the field, and all seven on-field officials. During all timeouts (including injuries and network breaks), place the All29 camera in the full field position (6). It is important to check the pre-snap view on every play. See below for pre-set information.
- On each play, verify that the game clock is running on the broadcast feed immediately after the snap and that it stops after the play if it should. If you see any potential clock error, tell the Replay Official so they can determine if there is a clock issue. Have a strong understanding of the clock rules.
- When instructed by the RO/RA, provide a detailed description of what on-field officials and the teams are doing. Most importantly, let them know if officials are having a discussion or changing a spot/ruling or if the offense is moving into formation.
- Alert the RO/RA if the broadcast feed is showing a replay in slow motion, super slow motion, zooming in, etc.
- Let the Replay Official know about any vital information about replay-related calls from the live broadcast feed that you hear on your headset in the booth.
- During kickoff and punt plays start with the (1) or (3) preset (depending on what side of the field the kick is taking place) and widen the shot from there so all players/officials in the shot. The previous mechanics of starting at the (6) preset is zoomed too far out and it is difficult to see the action on these types of plays. Please see (ALL-29 KO/ALL-29 PUNT) examples below.
- Use the all-field preset (6) during replay reviews so that we can identify where players are, Referee movements, any green hat signals, etc.
- During plays where there is an injury or team officials are assessing a player injury, move the ALL-29 to preset (6). Move to preset (6) immediately if there is a sense that a player is injured, and we may be stopping play. Make sure the Orange Sleeve is in view.
Post-Game
- Keep the All-29 on pre-set 6 for 10 minutes after the game or until the field clears. Whichever occurs first. After that time, park the All-29 using pre-set 10.
- Speak with the RO/RA to receive any feedback after the game.
- Submit game report in GMS by 12:00 p.m. ET the day following the game.
- Clock out as you leave the stadium
