Officiating Coordinator Coach

The Officiating Coordinator Coach ensures the quality and consistency of NFL officiating, including but not limited to game officials’ communication, mechanics, and application of the officiating rules and standards. This individual will also be responsible for training and developing potential and current officials, including specialized training to officials based on position and areas of need. Officiating Coordinator Coach will develop relationships with the pipeline of officials across the country.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the planning as well as attend annual NFL officiating clinics, developing programming related to rules, mechanics, and other officiating matters
- Coordinate assessment reports for NFL officiating crews for preseason, regular season, and postseason games
- Attend NFL games and pregame meetings with crews to ensure consistent communication between officiating department and game officials
- Observe games from Art McNally GameDay Central and begin preliminary evaluation of crew performances; tag plays for further review
- Participate in weekly review and evaluation of officiating crews; analyze trends in individual game officials’ performances to suggest areas of focus for further training and development
- Develop discussion topics and suggested rule changes for annual Competition Committee review
- Attend NFL OTAs, mini-camps, and training camps to foster relationships with clubs and ensure consistent messaging as it pertains to officiating rules/issues
- Attend and scout college spring games; attend college officiating clinics
- Forge relationships with college officiating coordinators and local high school associations
- Attend annual officiating candidate interviews
- Attend NFL Officiating retreat to prepare for upcoming season
- Develop material to assist NFL Officials in studying rules, including preseason and regular season rules tests; coordinate rules study sessions
- Create video library relating to specific rules and play situations
- Meet with and provide guidance to NFL officials on NFL Officiating rules and policies based on officiating position
- Conduct regularly occurring phone conferences and training opportunities for NFL Officials
- Responsible for receiving and responding to inquiries for assistance from NFL Officials
- Communicate regularly with SVP and VP of Training & Development to discuss and review the performance of NFL Officials; ensure consistent messaging to NFL Officials
- Identify underperforming NFL Officials and develop training plans
- Support the mentorship program by matching up officials, checking on progress, developing materials
- Create position training tapes as directed by the SVP and VP of Training & Development
- Attend assigned college games to scout the work of potential pipeline officials and those in the Officiating Development Program
- Evaluate and submit scouting reports as requested by SVP and VP of Training & Development
- Perform other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Minimum five years of NFL or NCAA Division I experience as a game official or club level coach and consistently met performance standards
- Superior management skills, a strong executive presence, and exceptional oral and written communication skills
- Excellent teaching and training skills
- Computer proficient: Microsoft Office (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook), Internet, and professional level sports video editing systems such as NFL Vision, DVSport, XOS, Zoom and other virtual interaction environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated understanding of NFL officiating rules and game day football operations
- Ability to represent the NFL to a wide range of audiences including club executives, league department heads, players, coaches, game officials and fans
- Proven ability to build strong relationships and establish credibility quickly in key internal and external relationships
- Extensive travel including weekends required
Other Key Attributes / Characteristics
- Ability to build relationships with college conference partner officiating coordinators and establish personal rapport with pipeline game officials for future consideration as NFL game and replay officials
Travel
- Position will primarily be a remote position, however, extensive travel during the season may be required.
- Occasional travel to attend officiating and club clinics and camps during the off-season is required.
Terms / Expected Hours of Work
- Extensive hours are required, especially during the season.
Salary
$300,000 - $300,000 USD
