Producer, New Geolocation-Based Mobile Game

Tokyo, Japan

Niantic’s newly formed Tokyo game development team is seeking a Producer to help bring to life an exciting new mobile game built around real-world exploration and geolocation-based mechanics. The game features a globally recognized Japanese IP, and offers a rare opportunity to contribute from an early development stage.

As a Producer, you will work closely with both internal Niantic teams (in Tokyo and globally) and key external partners to drive execution, align stakeholders, and ensure the project progresses smoothly. The game is built around geolocation-based gameplay and real-world exploration, with AR features potentially enhancing the overall experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day production and scheduling of a new geolocation-based mobile game, from prototype through MVP and into full development
  • Translate creative vision and design direction into actionable development milestones and roadmaps
  • Align with IP holders and partner organizations on brand, creative, and content goals while keeping development on track
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external development partners to ensure milestone alignment and product quality
  • Identify risks and remove roadblocks through proactive and collaborative problem-solving
  • Plan and run development sprints, and track progress across a Tokyo-based team (server, client, and UX)
  • Champion a player-centric development process by incorporating playtests, user feedback, and ongoing iteration
  • Maintain clear communication between the Tokyo team and Niantic’s global stakeholders (primarily US-based)
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings
  • Required in-office 3 days on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mobile game development, with at least one shipped title
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to structure and deliver complex tasks with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering, design, and product
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to clearly articulate decisions and tradeoffs in both Japanese and English
  • Native-level Japanese and strong business-level English communication skills
  • A deep interest in geolocation-based games and real-world exploration experiences — whether or not you’ve worked on one before. Passion for titles like Ingress or Pokémon GO is a strong plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including asynchronous interactions with others

Due to confidentiality, additional details about the IP and development partners will be shared only with shortlisted candidates under NDA.

Join the Niantic team!

Niantic's global-scale augmented reality platform and digital map powers spatial computing experiences in the real world. Incubated out of the Maps team at Google, Niantic first created Ingress and then Pokémon GO, a cultural phenomenon and hit game played by tens of millions of people each month. Niantic’s Lightship platform, which powers Pokémon GO, also supports the company's other games including Pikmin Bloom, Peridot and Monster Hunter Now. Developers use Niantic’s platform to build their own AR applications and experiences, either with the Lightship Platform or directly through the web with 8th Wall.
