Software Engineer, Client
Pokémon GO is a 1st party development studio within Niantic. As a client developer you will have an opportunity to work on a diverse set of client features. From the social aspects of Pokémon GO integrating shared service technologies which enable our players to interact in a safe and respectful manner that is both fun and engaging. To the features that allow players to explore the world of Pokémon GO. Creating experiences that further enhance the world of Pokémon GO and drive players to get out and explore the world. Or possibly the features that allow players to interact in the cooperative and competitive interactions of Pokémon GO, Player versus Player (PvP), Raid and Gym battling. Client engineers in this area work closely with server engineers to ensure that the moment player experience is responsive and engaging. We are constantly improving all aspects of the ecosystem that is Pokémon GO
Responsibilities
- Build engaging features on the Unity game client.
- Debug sophisticated projects built on Unity.
- Perform load and performance testing, participate in code reviews, write unit tests, and conduct troubleshooting to ensure uptime for live systems.
- Work together with Game Designers to design and develop game features for Pokémon GO
- Work closely with Pokémon GO server engineers to ensure solutions are high quality and scalable.
- Ensure the Niantic engineering organization constantly improves its development best practices
- Mentor junior client engineers on technical solutions.
- Operate directly with studio engineering managers and partner platform teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional team members and stakeholders, including regular and reliable attendance and participation in meetings.
- Required in-office 2 days/week (Wednesday, Thursday).
Qualifications
- You have a BS in Computer Science or other technical major, or equivalent experience.
- You have published at least one mobile app to the app store (iOS or Google).
- You can work in multiple programming languages; C# for Unity, Java in Android, Obj-C in iOS, C/C++ mobile native.
- 1+ years of professional software development experience or equivalent.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced hybrid environment and handle stress appropriately and/or ability to solve practical problems and be sufficiently adaptable to handle dynamic situations with little advance notice.
- Experience working on cross-functional teams with ability to communicate effectively through written and verbal communications, including synchronous interactions with others.
Plus If...
- You have experience working with a ‘AAA’ game engines (Unreal, Unity, Lumberyard, Frostbite, etc.) or proprietary game engine
- You have work experience with Unity on mobile devices in Android and iOS.
- You have 3D game engine experience, particularly in Unity3D.
- Experience in optimization, systems architecture, profiling, tooling, and reporting.
- You are experienced with profiling and optimization for mobile.
The total compensation package for this position includes a new hire offer base salary range of $150,500 - $176,000. In addition to base pay, employees may be eligible for equity, bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits package.
Individual pay within this salary range is determined by work location and additional factors, including assessed job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
