Controller
Who we are:
Nightingale Veterinary Partners is a fast-growing family of veterinary practices, headquartered in New York City. The organization includes practices in New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Massachusetts, Florida, and Westchester County.
About the role:
Nightingale Veterinary Partners is seeking a Controller to join a team of talented pet-enthusiasts on a mission to reinvent the veterinary experience for pets and their owners. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, love numbers, and want to be an integral part of a growing company, we would love to speak with you.
The Controller will play a critical leadership role in helping scale our accounting operations in a complex, multi-entity healthcare environment operating under a corporate practice of medicine (CPOM) structure. This highly visible, in-office role and we expect you to work from our Chelsea office at least 3 days per week. You will report directly to the CFO and serve as a key partner in building scalable accounting processes and infrastructure. This role is equal parts leadership and execution: overseeing our talented accounting team while staying close to the work across all aspects of accounting and finance.
We’re seeking candidates with hands-on accounting experience in multi-entity, multi-state businesses — ideally within healthcare, veterinary, dental, or other corporate practice of medicine structures — who can drive operational excellence, ensure compliance across jurisdictions, and help us support rapid growth.
What You’d Do:
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, fixed assets, cash management, and other transactional activity across multiple entities.
- Lead and manage the monthly close for all entities, including inter-company transactions, consolidation, and account reconciliations.
- Manage the financial reporting process, including legal entity reporting, consolidated financials, management reports, KPIs, and practice-level P&Ls.
- Prepare and review bank reconciliations and oversee cash flow forecasting and management.
- Develop and enforce accounting policies, internal controls, and standard operating procedures tailored to a multi-entity healthcare environment.
- Partner with internal teams and clinic operators to ensure accurate revenue recognition, expense tracking, and operational compliance.
- Ensure compliance with state-specific regulatory requirements associated with corporate practice of medicine structures, including ownership, licensing, and reporting obligations.
- Navigate and manage sales tax, business registration, and other compliance needs across multiple state jurisdictions.
- Lead and support financial statement audits and tax compliance efforts across multiple states.
- Identify and implement automation opportunities to drive efficiency and reduce manual processes.
- Manage and develop a growing team of accounting professionals.
What We Require:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- CPA required.
- Minimum of 5+ years as a leader on accounting teams and 10+ years of progressive corporate accounting experience, ideally within a multi-entity, healthcare, veterinary, dental, or other corporate practice of medicine environment.
- Strong command of US GAAP, including consolidation, elimination entries, and multi-entity reporting.
- Experience managing accounting operations across multiple state jurisdictions.
- Skilled in ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or other similar platforms.
- Experience with EPM tools such as Hyperion, Workday Adaptive Planning, or similar.
- Advanced MS Excel skills required.
- Proven ability to develop scalable processes and controls in a growth environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a high attention to detail.
- Collaborative, ethical, accountable, and adaptable.
