
Senior/Principal Scientist, Target Identification & Validation

Position
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior/Principal Scientist to join our Target ID & Validation team. The Senior/Principal Scientist will play a critical role in the design, development, and execution of in vitro and in vivo assays to drive our discovery pipeline. This position requires deep hands-on experience in assay development and screening within a pharma or large biotech environment, with a strong grounding in pharmacology and pharmacokinetics (PK).
Ideal candidates will use their scientific acumen and collaborative approach to partner across the interdisciplinary Nilo team on all aspects of the drug discovery process. What you’ll do:
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of in vitro and in vivo assays to evaluate drug candidates.
- Drive screening efforts in collaboration with cross-functional project teams.
- Interpret pharmacology and PK data to guide compound progression.
- Contribute to hit-to-lead and lead optimization campaigns with a focus on translational relevance.
- Work closely with medicinal chemistry, biology, and pharmacology colleagues to refine experimental strategies.
- Mentor junior scientists and bring a pragmatic, experience-first approach to problem-solving.
Key Qualifications:
- Pharma/large biotech experience with a track record in small molecule screening and drug discovery
- Proven expertise in assay development and optimization
- Hands-on in vivo and in vitro experience
- Strong working knowledge of pharmacology and PK principles
- Experience in working on neuronal targets is highly desirable
- Degree in pharmacology, biology, or related discipline. Practical experience is valued over credentials.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment and motivated to make significant contributions for the growth of a high-paced start-up
- A passion for high-quality, translational science and a desire to discover novel biology and new drugs
