About the Role

As a Senior DevOps Engineer on NinjaOne's DevOps Engineering team, you will build and run the release and deployment pipelines that move code from commit to production quickly, safely, and predictably at scale. The role centers on CI/CD, deployment automation, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with Terraform, and we are looking for hands-on experience across multiple clouds (AWS, Azure, GCP) with Kubernetes as our deployment runtime.

You will treat every environment, from ephemeral test stacks to production, as version-controlled, reviewable, and reproducible code. If you think in modules, state files, and plan/apply workflows rather than console changes and one-off scripts, this role is built for you. You will help build a cloud-agnostic Terraform foundation that engineering teams can adopt as we grow toward a multi-cloud model

You will work closely with Development, QA, Security, and Corporate IT to keep our release process and infrastructure secure, resilient, and fast. We are a fast-paced, rapidly growing company, and this role suits someone who enjoys owning the "last mile" of software delivery: turning builds into safe, automated, repeatable production deployments.

Location - We are flexible on remote working from home, if you are located in the USA and reside in one of the following states - CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, *IL, KS, MA, MD, ME, NJ, NC, NY, OH, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA. We have physical offices in Austin, TX and Tampa, FL, if you prefer a hybrid option.

*Onsite interviews may be required for this role.

We hire the best software engineers, but experience in our stack can’t hurt: NinjaOne is built on Java, Kotlin, C++, Golang and Postgres; supporting millions of user endpoints and running as a scalable cloud service in AWS.  Knowing large-scale datastore bottlenecks, asynchronous application design and client-server architecture will help you.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines: Develop and maintain our CI/CD framework, with particular depth on the CD side: artifact promotion, environment promotion, deployment gating, and automated rollback, with Terraform runs, plan reviews, and policy checks built into the pipeline.
  • Implement deployment strategies: Build progressive delivery patterns (blue/green, canary, rolling) with automated health checks, gating, and rollback, all defined as code.
  • Automate release management: Build tooling for release orchestration across services and regions, including scheduling, change tracking, and feature-flag-driven rollout.
  • Write and maintain Terraform: Design reusable, well-versioned modules and manage remote state, workspaces, and environment strategy so teams can safely self-serve infrastructure changes through code review.
  • Support our cloud-agnostic IaC foundation: Build secure, compliant infrastructure in AWS today, and help shape provider-agnostic module patterns and standards that extend cleanly to Azure and GCP, with Kubernetes as the common runtime.
  • Add governance and guardrails: Integrate policy-as-code, security and compliance scanning, and cost checks (e.g., Sentinel, OPA, Checkov, Infracost) into the Terraform pipeline so changes are safe, auditable, and cost-aware by default.
  • Enable other teams: Partner with engineering teams to migrate existing infrastructure to Terraform, and build documentation and golden-path templates so teams outside DevOps can author and own their own IaC.
  • Monitor and support delivery: Watch deployment pipelines, release health, and Terraform plan/apply activity. Act as a technical escalation point for production support during and after business hours, including incident response, rollback, and remediation.
  • Other duties as needed.

About You

  • 7+ years in a cloud-based DevOps environment, with deep, current AWS expertise and a strong emphasis on release engineering, deployment automation, and IaC.
  • Hands-on, production experience with Azure and/or GCP in addition to AWS. Experience operating on two or more clouds is preferred. We want someone who has deployed and run infrastructure on more than one cloud, not someone who has only reasoned about portability.
  • 4+ years of production Terraform: module authoring, remote state management (e.g., S3/DynamoDB backends), workspaces, provider version management, and safe plan/apply workflows integrated into CI/CD.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (or ECS) container orchestration and deployment tooling such as Helm and Kustomize, including provisioning clusters and node groups via Terraform.
  • Experience with Terraform in a multi-team environment, including state design, module registries, versioning policy, and access control. Familiarity with provider-agnostic module patterns is a plus.
  • Deep experience designing and operating continuous delivery pipelines (not just CI), including progressive rollout (blue/green, canary, rolling) and automated rollback. We prefer candidates who have owned the CD/release side, including infrastructure provisioning. CircleCI experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Terraform ecosystem tooling such as Terragrunt, Terraform Cloud/Enterprise, Atlantis, Sentinel/OPA, or Checkov is a plus.
  • A track record of reducing deployment lead time, change failure rate, and time to recover through automation and codified infrastructure.
  • Experience helping other teams adopt IaC through documentation, golden-path templates, and migrations.
  • Strong cloud operations skills, with a focus on the scalability, reliability, and maintainability of cloud-native applications and their Terraform-managed infrastructure.
  • Comfortable with agile tools (Jira, Confluence) and version control (Git, BitBucket) for both application code and IaC.
  • 5+ years working with *nix operating systems (Linux, MacOS, BSD variants, IBM AIX).
  • 4+ years of scripting in languages such as Shell, Go, Python, PERL, or Tcl/Tk, used to build deployment tooling, automation, and Terraform wrappers.
  • 4+ years of production monitoring, alerting, and deployment observability, including managing change and configuration and detecting drift against Terraform-managed state.
