About the Position
As an Analytical Laboratory Supervisor at Niron, you will lead the daily operations of our Analytical Laboratory, which supports R&D, production, and customer sampling/testing projects.
This position will collaborate closely with the R&D, Pilot Production, and New Product Development teams to deliver high-quality sample data within established timelines.
This position reports to the Director of Quality and Analytical and will lead a highly talented team of technicians.
30% Laboratory Management
- Supervise daily lab activities, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in testing procedures
- Improve lab throughput by identifying and executing performance improvement activities
- Plan, direct, and coordinate highly complex lab projects
- Determine optimal scheduling to ensure samples are prepared and measured in a timely fashion
- Perform weekly KPIs review, identify trends and potential roadblocks, suggest necessary improvements
- Identify and track equipment performance using Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques
- Help to specify, design, procure, and qualify new metrology equipment
- Assist R&D with the evaluation and recommendation of new analytical technology
- Support the development of a state-of-the-art laboratory with the necessary test capabilities
- Work with R&D team to transfer existing metrology processes from R&D to the analytical team; assist with equipment installation, maintenance, support, and repairs
- Work closely with R&D and production teams to understand their product test requirements
20% Sample analysis
- Assist team in analyzing various samples of nanoparticles, powder, magnetic and metallic specimens, some of a pyrophoric nature using equipment such as x-ray diffractometer (XRD), SAXS, vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), Hysteresis Graph, oxygen-nitrogen-hydrogen (ONH) analyzer, BET specific surface area analyzer, SEM etc
- Verify data quality for accurate analysis and reporting
- Create and manage various technical documents, equipment manuals, SOPs, work instructions, and method validation protocols
- Help to evaluate current metrology techniques to ASTM/ISO standards, oversee and modify SOPs as needed.
- Depending on the candidate’s experience with our analysis methods, an introductory period with >20% hands-on sample analysis work may be required
50% Team Management
- Lead laboratory technicians in carrying out testing and projects as needed
- Train and mentor lab technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- Foster a collaborative, safety-focused environment
- Perform all duties according to Niron's Safety Program
- Be flexible as some weekend or evening hours may be needed
What we're looking for
- BS in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science & Engineering, Nanotechnology, or related field
- 3-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, managing employees and/or workflows
- Proficiency in a variety of analytical techniques, such as XRD, SEM, rheology, etc.
- Excellent reporting skills with ability to concisely communicate the meaning of data
- Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple testing projects across teams while meeting deadlines
- Experience with ISO standards (17025 and 9001) with understanding of the importance of following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory compliance
- Quality and customer mindset

- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment, up to 25 lbs.

Nice to have
- Master’s of Science or advanced degree
- Team and lab management experience
- Previous powder, additive, or metallurgy experience
- Knowledge of magnetic, thermal, mechanical, chemical and physical properties testing
- Experience in automotive, coating or magnet industry
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing and/or Six Sigma Green Belt
- Statistical training in DOE and ANOVA
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, JMP/Minitab, SQL, ERP and/or data visualization software
Our pay and benefits
- Salary: $80,000 - $110,000 annually, depending on education, experience and skills
