About the Role
As a Member Networking Services Intern, you’ll gain hands-on experience working with a team that provides managed networking services to NISC Members across the country. Our services include managed firewalls, managed multi-factor authentication (MFA), managed networking, and secure cloud connectivity to NISC’s hosted environment using TrustGrid. You’ll have the opportunity to learn industry-leading technologies while supporting projects that directly help our Members strengthen their security and connectivity.
Essential Functions
- Assist with configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting of managed network and firewall services.
- Support the implementation and management of multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions.
- Help maintain secure connectivity between Member networks and NISC’s hosted environment via TrustGrid.
- Document processes, configurations, and procedures for internal use and Member support.
- Collaborate with the Managed Networking Services team to analyze and resolve issues in real-world networking and security environments.
- Gain exposure to best practices in managed services, security, and cloud connectivity.
Preferred Experience
- Previous experience (classroom, lab, or internship) in networking, information technology, or cybersecurity.
- Familiarity with networking fundamentals: routing, switching, firewalls, VLANs, and VPNs.
- Understanding of common security concepts such as access controls, segmentation, and authentication.
- Exposure to Microsoft Windows, Linux, or other operating systems.
- Interest in managed services, cloud technologies, and secure connectivity.

- Strong interest in networking, security, and IT infrastructure.
- Ability to learn new information quickly and adapt to evolving technologies.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Clear communication and collaboration skills for working in both independent and team environments.

Desired Education and/or Certification(s)
- High School diploma or equivalency required
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, networking, or related field (or equivalent IT experience).
