Project Opportunity Developer
Job Overview
The Project Opportunity Developer will play a crucial role in sourcing, pursuing, and securing opportunities to scale and support Nitricity's commercial plants. This role will help forge the leading edge of Nitricity’s future developments, focusing on opportunities for project site selection, feasibility studies, financing, power procurement, life cycle assessments, and community engagement to support and accelerate Nitricity’s commercial scale-up. This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance financial, operational, and environmental considerations to drive Nitricity's growth and sustainability goals.
Responsibilities
- Source, Analyze, and Develop Project Finance Opportunities
- Support the financing of commercial plants as Nitricity scales to larger projects: understand the key financing elements of a project and ensure that all projects and deals continue to meet or exceed financial hurdles
- Identify and present new funding opportunities, including grants, loans, and incentives to for upcoming Nitricity projects including fertilizer production and renewable energy projects
- Support grant, loan, and incentive application efforts, including execution of feasibility studies, grant writing, and coordination of 3rd parties for additional support
- Utilize financial models to support strategic decision-making
- Develop Site Selection and Commercial Scale-Up Opportunities
- Support management with site acquisition and due diligence for future Nitricity production sites. This may include helping with site plans, acquiring building permits, travel to sites, and negotiating city council approvals
- Help secure available federal, state, and local-level government incentives related to commercial sites and power procurement
- Negotiate terms with utilities and/or EPC firms, including permitting and interconnection
- Establish strategic partnerships with these key players (city councils, utilities, and large energy providers) to improve the economics of the plant by securing low-cost power and ultimately ensuring long-term fit
- Develop Cradle to Grave Life Cycle Assessment and Greenhouse Gas Mitigation Strategies
- Collaborate with LCA specialists to conduct comprehensive life cycle assessment studies for external use, including cradle-to-grave analyses
- Work with 3rd party to evaluate and quantify further direct evidence of decreased GHG field emissions with Nitricity fertilizers
- When appropriate, conduct internal life cycle assessment studies for Nitricity fertilizer products and competitors
- Collaborate with R&D, operations, and engineering teams to implement any LCA findings into process improvements, with the aim of reducing overall GHG footprint
- Lead Community Engagement & Support Business Development Analyses
- Lead community engagement efforts to establish and maintain relationships to support the community and promote the success and favorability of the projects.
- Market research and analysis as relevant for project opportunity development. This may pertain to the organic fertilizer market or future markets for Nitricity.
- Attend customer- & community-focused conferences, meetings, and trade shows
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Finance, Energy, Economics, Environment, Earth Science related field (Master's preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in project management and financing for renewable energy or related industries
- Strong analytical skills with proficiency in financial modeling and energy optimization
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships with public officials and agencies
- Demonstrate strong teamwork skills, collaborating effectively with colleagues to achieve shared goals and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with state and local communities
- Self-motivated with a results-oriented approach and attention to detail
- Adaptability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
- Knowledge of renewable energy or sustainable agriculture-focused incentives and regulations is a plus
- This role requires travel of 15%
- The position is primarily on-site in Fremont, CA
