Amsterdam, Netherlands (OR Europe)

CEO for Haermonics
Location: The Netherlands

The Innovation:
Haermonics is transforming postoperative open heart surgery care with the PURE System, an innovative flush-therapy device. By continuously cleaning the pericardial cavity, it prevents blood clots and hematomas, significantly reducing complications and eliminating the need for unnecessary reoperations. Clinically validated through trials showing a 59% reduction in blood loss and zero reoperations, the PURE System is poised to set a new standard in cardiac surgery recovery.

Your Role as CEO:
As the CEO of Haermonics, you will lead the company’s journey to commercialize and scale this groundbreaking technology across Europe and the US. You will develop and execute the business strategy, drive fundraising, negotiate with key stakeholders, and create partnerships to bring the PURE System to market. You will also lead a team of professionals across R&D, QA/RA, marketing, and clinical functions, ensuring alignment and driving innovation. Working together with advisors, partners and leveraging a strong support network, you will position Haermonics as a leader in postoperative care after open heart surgery.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the company’s growth strategy  to scale the PURE System in the EU and the US, leading cross-functional teams and driving innovation.
  • Commercialization: Develop go-to-market strategies that highlight workflow improvements and clearly communicate the economic benefits and business case for hospitals, focusing on cost savings and efficiency gains.
  • Fundraising and Investor Relations: Initiate and lead subsequent fundraising rounds to secure capital for growth, while maintaining strong, trust-based relationships with investors and financial partners.
  • Regulatory and Clinical Oversight: Oversee the CE marking process, ensuring regulatory milestones are met to enable market access. Manage clinical validation studies across Europe and the US to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of the PURE System.
  • Board Leadership and Governance: Establish and guide a high-functioning Board to ensure governance and alignment with company goals.
  • Stakeholder and Partnership Development: Strengthen relationships with investors, vendors, clinical partners, and key stakeholders to ensure alignment and facilitate successful commercialization and scaling.

Key Competencies:

  • Strategic Leadership: Proven experience in building and scaling MedTech ventures, with a preference for cardiology-focused and/or disposable products.
  • Fundraising Expertise: Demonstrated success in securing capital for MedTech ventures, including navigating complex healthcare investment landscapes.
  • Commercial Acumen: Skilled in developing go-to-market strategies and navigating healthcare systems, including reimbursement pathways for innovative medical technologies.
  • Stakeholder Management: Exceptional ability to negotiate and manage relationships with diverse parties, including investors, medical professionals, vendors, and strategic partners.
  • Regulatory & Clinical Understanding: Familiarity with CE marking processes as well as FDA, working alongside clinical teams on validation studies. Not necessarily a technical expert, but comfortable with operating in regulated, clinical environments.
  • Market Insight: Deep understanding of the cardiology and/or surgery sector, including trends, challenges, and opportunities, supported by a strong network within the field.

The Opportunity:
This is your chance to lead a high-potential MedTech venture with equity-based compensation and access to a robust innovation ecosystem. You will play a critical role in bringing a life-saving solution to patients and redefining the future of cardiac postoperative care.

This is more than just a job—it’s a chance to become a key partner in a highly promising venture. Here’s what we offer:

  • Equity-Based Remuneration: Share in the success you help create.
  • Cash Compensation: Linked to successful fundraising milestones.
  • Co-Funding Opportunity: Invest alongside us.
  • Part-time start: The role will commence at approximately 50% effort, with the understanding that hours will increase proportionally with company growth.
  • NLC Ecosystem Access: Leverage the expertise and network of NLC Venture Services to accelerate your impact.
  • Strategic Support: Regular sparring sessions with your Venture Partner and collaboration with over 100 CEOs in our network.

Why This Matters:
Every day, 250 patients lose their lives to preventable complications after open heart surgery. By joining and leading Haermonics, you’ll drive an innovation that not only saves lives but also reshapes cardiac care globally, making recovery safer and more effective for countless patients.
