Corporate Controller

Remote, US

Zephyr is a growing platform of local brands in the residential home services industry, spanning HVAC, plumbing, and electrical trades. Our mission is to perfect the home services experience from the inside out—by investing in our technicians, supporting local leadership, and equipping our teams with the tools and resources to deliver trusted service in every home we enter.

We operate in multiple markets across the country, combining the local trust and expertise of each brand with centralized support across marketing, technology, operations, and finance. At Zephyr, we move with purpose—bold in our pursuit of excellence, grounded in transparency, and unified by our commitment to customers, teams, and community.

The Role

The Controller will play a critical leadership role on Zephyr’s centralized finance team, overseeing financial operations, audit, tax and compliance across our expanding portfolio of local brands. This senior-level role will be responsible for managing core accounting systems and processes, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, and supporting strategic planning and forecasting efforts.

Reporting to the CFO, this role will work cross-functionally with operations, M&A, and FP&A to help build a scalable, efficient financial infrastructure that supports both organic growth and ongoing acquisitions.

Who We’re Looking For

At Zephyr, we believe everyone on the corporate team is either a technician or technician support. That mindset is core to how we operate—as a platform built to elevate and empower the local brands and frontline teams who deliver essential home services every day. We’re looking for someone who shares that belief and is energized by the opportunity to build financial systems that support those closest to the work.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, hands-on accounting leader who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. You’re comfortable navigating ambiguity, balancing competing priorities, and building for the future while managing the day-to-day. You bring both structure and flexibility—able to drive long-term financial strategies while adapting quickly to the needs of a rapidly growing, acquisition-driven business.

You are likely a strong fit if you are:

  • Passionate about serving others, especially the technicians and local teams who are the foundation of our business.
  • A builder at heart who sees infrastructure, process, and reporting as tools to enable smarter decisions and better outcomes.
  • Excited by the pace, complexity, and opportunity of a fast growth environment.
  • Comfortable rolling up your sleeves and switching between strategic planning and tactical execution.
  • A collaborative partner who enjoys working across functions and geographies to support shared goals.

Key responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting & Accuracy: Prepare and review timely, accurate consolidated financial statements for Zephyr and its portfolio of local brands. Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal standards.
  • Accounting Operations Oversight: Lead day-to-day accounting functions including general ledger management, accounts payable, cash management and month-end close.
  • Team Leadership & Development: Build, manage and mentor members of the accounting team and the third party Finance as a Service outsourcer, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Systems & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline financial operations and implement scalable systems, policies, and procedures to support growth.
  • M&A Integration Support: Opening Balance Sheet Accounting, finance onboarding, and systems integration for newly acquired brands, ensuring consistent processes and reporting structures.
  • Audit and Tax Leadership: Serve as the primary liaison with the external accounting firm(s) during audits and tax preparation, ensuring accurate and timely compliance.
  • Compliance & Controls: Establish and maintain strong internal controls, ensure compliance with all federal, state and local financial regulations including annual reports, property and sales and use tax filings.
  • Budgets, Forecasts and Variance Analysis: Partner with FP&A and local leadership to support annual budgets, periodic forecasts, and variance analysis that inform monthly reporting and strategic planning.
  • Strategic Business Partnership: Serve as a financial advisor to the CFO and leadership team, providing insight into performance drivers and supporting data-driven decision-making.
  • Risk Management: Monitor financial risks and develop strategies to mitigate exposure across the platform.
  • Perform other duties and special projects assigned by leadership.

We’d Love to Hear from You if You Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related discipline (Master’s preferred)

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
