Data Governance Engineer

Experience Level:Senior

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review and assess the current data governance policies, identifying gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Evaluate the data lake house model in Snowflake, ensuring compliance with governance standards and best practices.
  • Define and create reference benchmarks for data governance, focusing on security, privacy, and compliance.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop and enforce data governance frameworks for consistent, accurate, and compliant data management.
  • Establish guidelines for data stewardship, ownership, accountability, and accessibility.
  • Monitor and improve data governance tools, ensuring they provide adequate visibility into data quality, usage, and compliance.
  • Create and enforce best practices for data access, data security, and privacy.
  • Provide regular status updates on governance progress, highlighting risks, issues, and mitigation steps.
  • Collaborate with the Data Quality team to align governance policies with quality standards.

 

Must Have Skills:

  • Overall with 7years with 5+ years of relevant experience  in data governance frameworks and best practices (e.g., DAMA, DCAM).
  • Experience with Snowflake or similar cloud data platform governance.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
  • Experience with data governance tools (e.g., Alation, Collibra, Informatica, or similar).
  • Solid understanding of data stewardship concepts, including data ownership, accessibility, and accountability.
  • Experience with data access controls and security frameworks.
  • Proficiency in SQL for data governance assessments and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess governance practices and suggest improvements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Good to Have:

  • Familiarity with cloud data security practices (e.g., encryption, data masking, access controls).
  • Experience with data privacy tools and technologies (e.g., OneTrust, TrustArc).
  • Familiarity with data observability tools (e.g., Monte Carlo, Datafold, Bigeye).
  • Knowledge of metadata management and lineage tracking tools.
  • Experience in implementing data classification and data retention policies.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies for governance project management
  • Familiarity with machine learning and AI concepts as they relate to data governance.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, Data Science, or a related field.
