The R&D Packaging Engineer is a crucial role responsible for designing, developing, optimizing, and validating packaging solutions that protect product integrity and meet consumer expectations. This position leads both new product packaging innovation and continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating closely with suppliers and internal teams. The engineer ensures all packaging designs are compliant with regulatory and quality standards while supporting the seamless transition from lab-scale concepts to full-scale commercial production. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

New Product Development & Packaging Innovation: Ideate, design, and lead the development and qualification of innovative packaging formats and materials for dietary supplements (bottles, closures, cartons, blister and sample packs, displays, pouches and other formats) to support new product launches and enhance consumer appeal.

Continuous Improvement & Optimization: Analyze and improve existing packaging to enhance product integrity, optimize costs, and streamline manufacturing processes without compromising quality.

Technology & Innovation Integration: Evaluate and recommend new technologies, materials, and processing techniques to enhance product performance and scalability.

Technology Transfer & Scale-Up: Support the seamless transition of new packaging from front-end innovation to commercial production across different manufacturing facilities.

Plant Trial Execution: Plan and conduct packaging trials at manufacturing scales to validate packaging performance, filling line compatibility, and production feasibility.

Supplier Collaboration & Technical Integration: Partner with suppliers and cross-functional teams to research, evaluate, and qualify new materials and technologies that drive both innovative solutions and process efficiencies.

Regulatory Compliance & Sustainability: Ensure all packaging solutions meet FDA, cGMP, and other relevant regulatory standards while supporting sustainability initiatives, such as recyclable or biodegradable materials.

Process Documentation & Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain technical specifications, SOPs, and packaging instructions to ensure consistency and knowledge retention, and collaborate with QA to assess the impact of packaging on product stability, safety and customer satisfaction.

Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Provide expertise to address packaging-related issues, including material inconsistencies, defects, and machine compatibility, supporting corrective and preventative actions as needed.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as the primary packaging liaison, working closely with Product R&D, Production, Marketing, Procurement, and Regulatory teams to align packaging solutions with brand goals.

Other Requirements
BS degree in Packaging Science, Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with at least 8 years of professional experience in packaging R&D, design, and commercialization.
