The Accounting Manager leads the month‑end close, financial reporting, and technical accounting activities for the Finance & Accounting (F&A) department. This role establishes, maintains, and continuously improves the F&A department’s accounting policies and internal control environment, while supervising, coaching, and developing a team of accounting professionals. The Accounting Manager collaborates with other F&A leaders to support financial planning and analysis, treasury, and other functions to ensure timely, accurate, and compliant financial results in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The ideal candidate has strong project management and technical accounting skills and fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Own the month‑end close calendar and checklists; coordinate task assignments, dependencies, and approvals to ensure an accurate and timely close.
  • Review journal entries, account reconciliations, support schedules and variance analyses prepared by staff; resolve issues, escalate risks, and drive remediation.
  • Oversee preparation, and assist with review, of financial reports, including internal monthly financial statements and reporting packages, and external regulatory filings and surveys.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly results commentary, drivers, and trend analyses; support budget/forecast processes
  • Maintain the general ledger, chart of accounts, and allocation methodologies; ensure consistent application across entities and business lines.
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls; Ensure proper segregation of duties, authorization protocols, and review across key processes (disbursements, cash, reconciliations).
  • Assist with daily approvals of bank transactions, conforming with various bank agreements and company policies.
  • Perform various treasury management functions including warehouse facility projections, cash utilization, and liquidity analyses.
  • Coordinate audit and tax requests and oversee deliverables; respond to inquiries and implement recommendations.
  • Assess current accounting practices and procedures and provide recommendations for improvements
  • Lead technical accounting research and implementation on new/complex areas; draft accounting memos and policy updates.
  • Supervise accounting staff; allocate and delegate work effectively; set goals, provide coaching and conduct performance reviews.
  • Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across the team
  • Assist with implementation of strategic initiatives that drive growth and operational improvements.
  • Provide written and verbal analysis to management, as applicable.
  • Additional assistance to F&A team, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required.

Work Experience: 

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ownership of month‑end close and management reporting.
  • Understanding of commercial real estate and mortgage banking preferred.

Competencies: 

  • CPA or MBA preferred
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Proficiency with accounting software systems, CRM (i.e. Salesforce) and Microsoft Suite products
  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP
  • Strong analytical, verbal, written, problem-solving and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated organization skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and a variety of assignments; able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with co-workers and cross functional areas about various assigned tasks

Minnesota Residents: Northmarq carefully considers multiple factors to determine compensation, including a candidate’s education, training, and experience. The salary range for the Accounting Manager position is $110,000.00 to $130,000.00 annually. This range is a good faith estimate and the actual compensation that is offered to a successful candidate will depend on the candidate’s skills, qualifications, and experience.
