THE OPPORTUNITY
We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives from concept to production, define critical technical strategy that powers innovation at scale across our products and platform, and elevate our engineering organization's capability through mentorship and setting best practices.
YOUR PROFILE & EXPERTISE
- 10+ years of relevant experience, including high-growth or early-stage startups.
- Deep fluency in modern software technologies and architectural patterns, with the ability to quickly learn and ramp into our tech stack.
- A visionary and adaptive leader, adept at defining clarity and driving solutions through highly complex and ambiguous challenges in a rapidly evolving, fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional collaborator, able to effectively influence and communicate across technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior leadership.
YOUR CONTRIBUTIONS ACROSS A RANGE OF PROJECTS
- Architecting and building enterprise-grade APIs and establishing patterns for platform-level features (web and mobile).
- Pioneering and launching new, complex integrations with critical data suppliers.
- Shaping the strategic direction and overseeing the end-to-end productionization of complex data models to deploy mission-critical attributes and scores across our platform.
- Defining and evolving core platform architecture to support multiple product use cases and ensure long-term scalability.
IN THE FIRST MONTH, YOU'LL:
- Land your "new hire" ticket in the first week and directly contribute to at least one high-impact roadmap feature.
- Thoroughly understand our software development lifecycle and overarching technical strategy.
- Quickly grasp our business model, product offerings, and customer value proposition, understanding their strategic implications for engineering.
- Build rapport with the team and key stakeholders, understanding our working style, mission, and core values.
IN THE FIRST QUARTER, YOU'LL:
- Lead high-impact, cross-functional initiatives, delivering with speed and end-to-end ownership, often navigating ambiguity.
- Actively shape and make profound contributions across team norms (e.g., refining project plans, elevating code review standards, optimizing QA processes, improving on-call rotations).
- Forge strong collaborative relationships across engineering, product, design, data science, and other partner teams to drive cohesive development of complex projects.
- Deepen knowledge of critical product artifacts and proactively identify significant opportunities for architectural or systemic improvement.
- Develop a clear understanding of how engineering strategically impacts our business and product roadmap at a macro level.
IN THE FIRST YEAR, YOU'LL:
- Lead highly complex initiatives end-to-end, translating significant ambiguity into clear, actionable milestones to achieve both short and long-term organizational goals.
- Influence and implement our company's technical roadmap and strategic direction in close partnership with engineering and product leadership.
- Establish critical best practices, drive long-term technical vision, and advocate for architectural shifts to simplify and scale our entire product platform.
- Become a recognized subject matter expert across product verticals and foundational systems, adept at translating broad product requirements into impactful technical strategies.
- Significantly strengthen our engineering culture by championing open dialogue and feedback, and providing instrumental mentorship to uplift overall technical acumen
$212,500 - $259,200 USD per year
$189,231 - $230,818 CAD per year
The above compensation ranges are dependent on individual experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications. We consider all elements of compensation to be a part of the value we provide to Novans. This may include base salary, equity grants, incentive compensation for eligible roles, professional development, flexible PTO, and tenure rewards.
