Development & Grant Writing Manager
NovaGen Research Fund is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that supports biomedical research by providing infrastructure, funding assistance, and expert guidance in grant writing, contract management, and financial compliance, allowing scientists to concentrate on groundbreaking discoveries. NovaGen facilitates collaboration and data sharing at each stage of research, connecting researchers with funding opportunities, industry partners, other researchers and institutions to accelerate scientific advancements that benefit society.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented professional to lead fundraising initiatives and manage grant development for the new nonprofit biomedical research organization. This role will be instrumental in securing funding to support our scientific programs, research projects, and organizational growth. The ideal candidate will be offered the flexibility to join as a consultant.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research, identify, and evaluate funding opportunities from foundations, corporations, and government sources aligned with the organization's mission.
- Write compelling grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and reports to institutional funders.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive grants development/management calendar to track deadlines and reporting requirements.
- Collaborate with program staff and scientists to gather data, impact metrics, and narratives to support proposals and reports.
- Lead donor engagement strategies, including prospect cultivation, stewardship, and donor communications.
- Organize and support fundraising campaigns, donor events, and fundraising appeals.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the donor database (e.g., Salesforce, Raiser’s Edge).
- Monitor fundraising performance and prepare regular reports for leadership.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (biomedical sciences, nonprofit management, communications, public health, etc.); advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in grant writing and nonprofit fundraising, ideally in the biomedical or health sector.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Strong writing, research, and project management skills.
- Understanding of the biomedical research landscape and the ability to translate scientific concepts for general audiences.
- Knowledge of major biomedical funders both public and private such as the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Howard Huges Medical Institute, Gates Foundation and others.
- Understanding of AI and its use in scientific and medical research, as well as open source practices.
- Knowledge of major funders of AI research and open source applications such as the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
- Experience with CRM/donor management software.
- Highly organized, proactive, and results-driven management practices.
Preferred Skills:
- Knowledge of donor engagement best practices.
- Experience working in a research or academic environment.
- Familiarity with biomedical research programs within the Department of Defense.

Salary Range
$115,000 - $135,000 USD

This role has a market-competitive salary with an anticipated base compensation range listed below. Actual salaries will vary depending on a candidate’s experience, qualifications, skills, and location.
