About the role
Implementing operational risk management strategies for a regulated fintech involves dealing with complex challenges and leveraging opportunities. As Nu Colombia's Risk Management Specialist - Operational Risk, you will be responsible for executing and enhancing established frameworks to ensure compliance with the SFC's regulations, while also driving operational efficiency. An important aspect of your role will be leading strategic initiatives for both current and emerging non-financial risks. Your strategic mindset will be key in aligning risk management initiatives with business growth, enabling global and local synergies. Furthermore, by leveraging data analytics, you will aid in crafting robust operational strategies. You'll need a blend of strategic thinking, adaptability, and strong stakeholder engagement skills to excel in this influential role, that demands effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders throughout the organization.

As a Risk Management Specialist - Operational Risk you'll be expected to:
- Act as the liaison among various teams at Nu, including the first line of defense, analytics engineers, global teams, and enterprise functions, to manage and enhance Nu Colombia’s Operational Risk Database (BDRO). This includes improving processes for classifying operational risk losses, reconciling managerial and accounting data, validating consistency, generating decision-support reports, and including that information in the Operational Risk Management Assessments. It is expected that this role will lead to the maturity of this process by working closely with the teams to increase automation and reduce manual tasks.
- Develop, implement, document, and maintain metrics for operational risk management at Nu. This includes assessing the adoption of Operational Risk Management elements in the first line of defense while also evaluating our performance as the second line of defense. Creating insightful reports that facilitate informed decision-making is also a key aspect.
- Collaborate with global teams on operational risk projects that span multiple geographies to ensure cohesive risk management strategies. It includes aligning local and regulatory requirements with global methodologies to maintain compliance and efficiency.
- Translate business needs in operational risk management into concrete processes and tools that effectively address and solve problems.
- Implement procedures to continuously identify, monitor, measure, and assess processes, risks, and controls at Nu Colombia, ensuring continuous improvement and maturity in risk management practices.
- Create, implement and measure mandatory training programs to ensure comprehensive understanding and compliance with operational risk standards.
- Lead strategic initiatives targeted at managing both current and emerging non-financial risks
- Develop executive reports and deliver presentations at technical forums and relevant committees according to the company’s risk management governance framework.
We are looking for a Risk Management Specialist - Operational risk who has:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Economics, Math, Statistics, Law, Physics or related fields.
- Analytical and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of financial risk management regulation in Colombia
- Previous risk management experience
- Previous risk management experience at a Financial company or Fintech
- Good communications skills (having the habit of presenting projects to stakeholders of different backgrounds, knowledge and organizational levels will be considered an advantage)
- Time-management and prioritization skills
- Project management skills
- Fluency in both English and Spanish
