About the team

As Nu continues its global expansion and continues innovating, the risk landscape becomes increasingly complex. While Nubank has developed a strong Risk structure within the 2nd Line of Defence, we are looking to continue strengthening our risk maturity in the 1st Line. The BCO team was therefore created to directly support the various Business Units of Nubank with managing their risks in a proactive manner, with the assumption that the 2nd and 3rd lines of defense do not exist.

This team is also continuously evolving, and BCOs are expected to directly contribute to the development of the BCO structure, by bringing their ideas to the table, and help create "Best in Class" Risk Management in the 1st line of Defense.

About the role

To support the Business Units in achieving their objectives, the BCOs will be expected to balance risk and business priorities. By being hands-on, they will lead by example and support the teams, always keeping in mind the vision that we have established: "To empower the 1st line Nubankers to become proactive Risk Owners, ensuring adherence to standards and protecting the interests of the company and stakeholders".

To do so, the BCOs follow 5 pillars of focus:

  1. Risk Management Leadership: The BCO will serve as a proactive risk advisor in new product and feature processes, ensuring potential issues are identified and documented and supporting in prioritization with the BU's leaders.
  2. Regulatory Compliance: The BCO will act as the first line's primary contact for regulatory inquiries, reviewing information before it's shared with Compliance. The BCO will identify gaps in new regulations and implement action plans.
  3. Issue & Remediation Management: The BCO will proactively identify and map issues, ensuring they are tracked and remediated in a timely manner. The BCO will perform root cause reviews to address systemic issues, not just individual incidents.
  4. Control Environment: The BCO will lead the design and implementation of new controls, ensuring control documentation is up-to-date and accessible. The BCO will also responsible for Risk Control Self Assessment.
  5. Reporting & Communication: The BCO will provide relevant, automated dashboards and reports to the senior leadership team to facilitate decision-making. The BCO will ensure appropriate KRIs to improvement the risk management process in Global Bank Account.
