Who You Are:
The Scientific Affairs Internship provides qualified students the opportunity to receive supervised training and experience in the fields of exercise physiology and human performance. The Scientific Affairs Department possesses two fully equipped exercise physiology laboratories and fitness centers that it utilizes to perform proof-of-concept product efficacy and safety studies and to provide concierge fitness and human performance testing and prescriptive services to its employees, affiliates, guests, and other athletes and community members.
Work Schedule: Up to 25 hours per week. Hours per week as per University credit hour requirements. Schedule to be determined with Manager.
What You're Good At:
Field experience will vary based upon the learning objectives as defined and agreed upon between the student’s University internship coordinator and the Scientific Affairs Manager, but functions and duties may include assisting with:
- Investigational and clinical research, such as:
- Serving as a co-investigator on internally administered investigations
- Supporting study design, scheduling, materials preparation, and recruitment
- Supporting data collection, entry, analysis, interpretation, and presentation of results
- Supporting poster and/or scientific conference presentation and research manuscript development (if applicable)
- Supporting development and maintenance of investigational product structure and function claims
- Concierge fitness and human performance testing and prescription
- Group or individual strength coaching and personal training
- Ensuring the safety and confidentiality of participants
- Supporting Scientific Affairs educational and social media
- Maintaining equipment and a clean, orderly, and stocked laboratory
- You will be expected to complete all assignments and responsibilities conditional for your University internship course
What You Contribute:
- Enrollment in a Masters of Science degree (preferred) or Bachelors degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology or Kinesiology at a qualifying University
- Adult First Aid, AED, and CPR certified
- NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), NSCA Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-CEP), ACSM Exercise Physiology (ACSM-EP), or ACSM Personal Trainer (ACSM-PT) certification preferred
- ACRP or CITI Ethics and Human Subject Protection certification (necessary for serving as a co-investigator in human research)
- Passion for health and fitness, and helping others
- Enjoys learning, improving expertise within your field, educating others, and welcomes new challenges
- Self-motivated and inquisitive, effective at problem solving, enjoys learning through experimentation and research, and is methodical, thorough, and takes pride in your work and values others’ contributions
- General understanding of medical and scientific terminologies, technical writing and computer skills; strong Excel skills required
- Ability to communicate effectively to lay and scientific individuals and groups, both verbally and in writing
- Strong work ethic, work well with others and under stress, and strive for excellence
