Physical Therapist Assistant
We are looking for a talented and compassionate Physical Therapist Assistant, Per Diem to work for our NVNA Works private duty sector. In this position, you will provide physical therapy services to clients in their home under the direction and supervision of the physical therapist. To carry out the treatment plan delegated by the physical therapist, modify the treatment according to the plan of care, assist the physical therapist in patient treatments and carry out other departmental duties as assigned.
What will you be doing:
- Provide physical therapy treatments as delegated by the physical therapist by utilizing various therapeutic exercise, therapeutic massage, compression, heat, cold, ultraviolet, water and electricity.
- Perform and report to the physical therapist the following assessment techniques including but not limited to range of motion, muscle testing, length and girth assessment, vital signs, sensory assessment, functional assessment, home assessment, standardized measures, formal and informal tests, checklists and developmental assessment.
- Measure and adjust crutches, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs, and perform instruction in their use and care.
- Instruct, motivate, and assist clients with increasing pulmonary function, learning and improving functional activities such as; re-ambulation, transfers, ambulation, and activities of daily living, and the use and care of orthoses, prostheses, and supportive devises.
- Assist the client to develop/restore function, maintain maximum potential and achieve adequate pain control.
- Modify the client treatment indicated by client response, within the limits specified in the plan of care and report orally and in writing to the physical therapist via patient written record.
- Order and procure client equipment through medical supply personnel with input from the primary physical therapist.
- Document and report pertinent information regarding client treatment to physical therapist, (if requested by the physical therapist) including client outcomes and responses to treatment and/or any other changes in the client’s condition in a timely manner.
- Complies to Agency policies and procedures regarding daily progress/status reports. Assist physical therapist in preparation of discharge forms and telephone orders.
- Communicate with families and private duty staff members regarding client status reports as appropriate.
- Participates in case conferences as client situation demands.
- Supervise assigned caregiver services providing limited caregiver exercise programs. Instruct caregiver/family in proper techniques.
- Participate in quality assurance activities as requested by the Agency.
- Assures Agency compliance with all federal and state laws as well as adhering to the Norwell Visiting Nurse Association, Inc. Corporate Compliance policy in the prevention of fraud and abuse on behalf of the Agency.
- Performs other Agency-related duties, as assigned by the Clinical Care Manager.
What we’re looking for in you:
- Graduate of an accredited school for physical therapy assistant with an Associate’s Degree in Physical Therapist Assistant
- Current State of Massachusetts Physical Therapist Assistant License
- Previous community/home health experience or equivalent required
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good working knowledge of EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
- Good computer skills (Microsoft Outlook)
- Able to interact professionally with patients/clients, families and co-workers
- Able to work effectively under pressure and in various work environments
- Able to work independently with minimum supervision
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Flexible and dependable
