
Lead Mechanic, Public Markets

Position Overview: The Lead Mechanic within Public Markets will provide field knowledge, maintenance oversight, handyman capabilities, pest control management, cleaning supplies orders and inventories and sub cellars management for Public Markets. This person will work directly with contracted maintenance staff, field employees, portfolio management, design and construction teams, and will report to the VP, Public Markets Operations. This role will assist within the three directly managed public markets and additional sites as needed. It will also require flexibility on the workings days and hours, including nights and weekends.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervision contracted vendors: Assist in management of on-site contracted janitorial and security workers, as well as contractors performing repair work within the properties. Assist in supervising maintenance and security staff (contractors). Help oversee pest control work and contribute with strategies to help keep markets free of pest.
- Supervise and Monitor: Supervise and manage mechanics, and general field staff and crews. Supervise the cleaning of entrance and interior doors daily, as well as storage, hallways, lobbies, lounges, corridors, stairways, restrooms and replenish bathroom supplies are done to standards. Ensure the janitorial staff utilize appropriate cleaning supplies, materials, liquids and other agents as appropriate. Paint or clean floors and walls as needed. Clean urinals, toilets, sinks, mirrors, walls, etc. Ensure janitorial job performance is up to expected standards.
- Supervise Rubbish collection: Supervise the trash collection process. Transport trash and waste to disposal areas if needed.
- Supervise Special Cleanings: Clean, prime and paint building interior/exterior walls or coordinate with designated vendors as needed to keep the building façade free of graffiti. Supervise all deep cleanings for market and outside windows to make sure they are done as stipulated in the vendor’s contract.
- Cleaning Supplies Inventory and Ordering: Ensure all markets have the necessary cleaning supplies and keep track of their usage and inventory. Building systems are operable, reliable, and safe for use. Responsible for arranging ongoing maintenance and repairs and coordinating with contractors, and mechanics to perform maintenance and repairs of building systems as required.
- Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies as required. Must be available and responsive 24/7 and able to help provide solutions during the decision-making process as issues arise. Supervise the removal of ice and snow as required, which may require 24 hours per day/7days-a-week response.
- Site Inspections: Conduct weekly site inspections and report findings. Supervise the cleaning and regular checking of all lighting fixtures and replace light bulbs as needed.
- Supervise Special Market Set Ups: Clean, prime and set up markets with field staff for special events and programming.
- Safety Data Sheet Management: Maintain and coordinate the SDS for maintenance & tenants annually at each market.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 4+ years of related experience in maintenance and upkeep of commercial and/or residential properties
- Demonstrated communication skills
- Ability to work independently
- Proficient in MS Office and Outlook
- Familiarity with using a two-way radio and iPhone.
- Knowledge of cleaning machines and tools, including use of maintenance and minor repairs
- Knowledge of chemicals found in cleaning products, danger signs and disposal methods
- Ability to push or carry objects
- Ability to work in a team environment and to work on individual projects with minimal oversight
- Valid driver’s license
- Familiarity with typical building systems
- Familiarity with building and fire code codes/regulations
- Familiarity with typical refrigeration systems
- Familiarity with snow removal procedures and plans
- 24 hour on-call response
- New York City residence within 180 days of hire.
Salary Range
$75,000 - $77,000 USD
