Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure Products

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.

The Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure Products, is responsible for evolving the infrastructure platforms and corporate products and applications through both long-term and short-term planning and through implementing changes in support of the technology roadmap and the technical infrastructure. Provides technology vision for internal NYISO products, coordinates internal product feature definitions and owns the implementation of annual business plan commitments. Manage overall product portfolio budget and vendor relationships.

The Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure Products, leads the annual NYISO project prioritization process and is responsible for the tools, reporting and logistics that support it.

Must be a self-motivated professional who displays effective leadership in a team-based environment. Have considerable experience working in a dynamic changing environment, with a proven commitment to providing value-based customer service and the ability to anticipate and address stakeholder needs.  Display a clear understanding of internal and external stakeholder needs.  Have considerable experience in managing multiple competing priorities, use of good judgment, problem-solving and decision-making skills and a thorough knowledge and experience with software development life cycle methodology along with extensive vendor management skills.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead processes for creation, enhancement, development, evolution, and improvement of internal products as identified in the product portfolio.
  • Produce and own product development roadmaps. Consider regulatory requirements, the NYISO strategic plan, Information Technology strategy, internal and external stakeholder input.
  • Own the development, management, and execution of the annual product portfolio plans.
  • Own product documentation and supporting business cases designed to advance the products and services offered by NYISO.
  • Track progress, measure adoption, identify satisfaction levels, address issues, report status and assume accountability for achievement of objectives consistent with the product strategies to provide industry leading products and services.
  • Manage NYISO projects in accordance with project budgets and strategic plan.
  • Coordinate changes to the plan with stakeholders through the Enterprise Change Management Process.
  • Own annual project prioritization process. Organize the development, management and execution of the Product project plans. Oversee the creation of project resource and cost estimates and the development of detailed work breakdown/project plans,
  • Develop and report appropriate metrics such that plan progress can be tracked by management and stakeholders, identify deviations from the plan and recommend remedial actions.
  • Interface with stakeholders to clearly define product requirements for new feature delivery.
  • Validate requirements are complete and accurate as defined by the customer, confirm that all applicable compliance objectives are met by the requirements, and ensure involved parties approve.
  • Establish roadmap schedules for feature set delivery to be integrated with the enterprise software release schedule and project schedule. Provide project management oversight for implementation of technical infrastructure enhancements and new features within the Product Line.  Track and report progress of project portfolio activities throughout Software Development Lifecycle.
  • Participate in the development and continuous improvement of the NYISO product management processes and best practices. Implement enhancements/improvements to the product management lifecycle, as required.
  • Develop metrics to monitor product success and report progress as compared to defined objectives.
  • Interface directly with internal customers to promote products and to communicate details regarding product plans, strategies and direction.
  • Engage strategic NYISO vendors in product planning workshops to ensure integration with NYISO architecture plans, industry trends and stakeholder product demands. Manage oversight of timeliness and quality of vendor project deliverables, on-site personnel activities, delivery of support to warranty obligations and costs of services delivered.
  • Ensure adequate planning, timely communication and engagement of internal stakeholders for the annual prioritization process.
  • Manage and evolve the tools required for the annual project prioritization process. Focus on introducing efficiencies, where possible to enable effective resource and cost planning needed to support decision-making.

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Yes. Positions reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure Products include Associate Product Business Analysts, Product Business Analysts, Senior Product Business Analysts, Project Managers, and Senior Project Managers.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BS or BA, Engineering, Information Technology or related field) required. MBA or advanced degree in engineering or related field desired.
  • Ten years of experience; at least five years of professional experience in a technical industry, product marketing and/or product development and knowledge of electric power systems or wholesale electric markets is desired; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must have knowledge of product management principles, marketing processes and tools used to effectively manage product lines.
  • Knowledge of project management principles, processes, and tools used to effectively manage projects is required.
  • Project experience with Information Technology (IT) projects and business experience in electric power systems or wholesale electric markets is desired.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication and management skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from market participants, regulatory agencies or members of the business community.  Ability to write speeches, and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or board of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inferences and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs. Knowledge and understanding of how market software works and the process of IT software development desired.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to perform routine office tasks.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  Contact with staff and public will occur.  Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences and training. This position may require work on nights, weekends or holidays.

Salary Range

$131,700 - $228,400 USD
