Associate Commitment Analysis Engineer

The NYISO’s Operations department invites applications for a full-time Associate Commitment Analysis Engineer.
The Associate Commitment Analysis Engineer is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the NYISO Day-Ahead Market. This individual is expected to gain working knowledge of the New York State high voltage transmission system and the market analysis software to support the NYISO markets and security functions. The Associate Commitment Analysis Engineer provides support in the development of software and techniques to assist in analyzing market functions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform the Day-Ahead Market on a shift rotation, validating results, and issues reports.
- Perform topology simulations in the Security Constrained Unit Commitment software and analyze impacts.
- Provide backup engineering support to the Day-Ahead Market.
- Collaborating activities with internal ISO staff, including Grid Operations, Scheduling, Power System Operations, Market Monitoring, and IT functions.
- Perform User Acceptance Testing to support market projects and system updates to the Security Constrained Unit Commitment and Real-Time Scheduling programs.
- Test and implement network model updates to ensure accurate system representation.
- Perform validation to the weather-based load forecasts used in the Day-Ahead and Real-Time market systems.
- Support Business Management System software deployments by performing BMS parameter validation process.
- Work with senior staff members to develop testing and analysis processes and proficiencies.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Electrical Engineering with coursework in power systems (generation and transmission equipment, concepts and principles), mathematical modeling of power system components required.
- Master’s Degree (MS) desired.
- No prior industry related or professional experience required; however, six months of experience from a power related internship, co-op assignment or class project desired. This position will be filled at the appropriate level (Associate – Senior) based upon relative experience and qualifications.
- Knowledge of industry practices regarding power system operations, Unit Commitment, or Economic Dispatch preferred.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, vendors, Market Participants and the general public.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, schematics, etc.). Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
- Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, database spreadsheets, e-mail and internet programs. Working knowledge of Linux desired.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Contact with staff and public will occur. Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences and training. This position may require work on nights, weekends or holidays.

Salary Range
$71,000 - $118,700 USD
