Our Kenya program, founded in 2006, operates under the local brand Tupande. Close to 500 staff in our Kakamega headquarters support 1,747 field staff and serve more than 1 million farmers. In Nairobi, around 50 staff support global functions like procurement, recruitment, government relations, and communications.
About the Role
Seeking an exceptional food science or quality management professional with 3-5+ years of experience to increase our impact per farmer by ensuring world-class product standards and maximizing oil extraction quality.
Responsibilities
Quality Assurance Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement a robust QA strategy and policies that align with company goals and industry best practices.
- Set quality KPIs and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce product deviations and non-conformities
Team Management
- Manage and mentor a team of QA Officers and laboratory personnel through active training, performance management, and skills development.
- Oversee staff scheduling and resource allocation to ensure the team is well-equipped and operates efficiently
Compliance and Regulatory Oversight
- Ensure all operations strictly comply with FSMS, HACCP, GMP, and local environmental regulations.
- Lead internal and external audits, coordinating responses and following up on all corrective actions.
Laboratory Oversight
- Oversee all laboratory testing processes (e.g., oil quality, ripening, wastewater) and ensure equipment is calibrated and maintained.
- Review and validate all test results, leading investigations into any significant technical deviations.
Process and Product Quality Assurance
- Validate quality at critical control points across receiving, processing, and storage to ensure food safety.
- Approve the release of raw materials and finished products while driving corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive QA documentation, including test records, deviation logs, and audit reports.
- Compile and present weekly/monthly quality reports to senior leadership, highlighting root cause analysis and non-conformity closures.
Food Safety and Waste Management
- Champion a food safety culture across the organisation to ensure collective accountability.
- Supervise waste segregation and wastewater testing to ensure full compliance with environmental regulations.

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Food Engineering, Microbiology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5–7 years of progressive experience in quality assurance in food manufacturing or agro-processing. At least 2 years in a supervisory or management capacity overseeing QA/lab teams.
- Knowledge and experience in the Food Safety Management System, Environmental, and Occupational Health and Safety in the workplace.
- Ensures all your tasks are completed to the processing needs
- Have the ability to identify a problem, investigate to find out relevant facts, and find a logical solution
- Strong verbal communication skills can help you explain ways to improve processes to other people so they can achieve set quality standards.
- Ability to work as part of a team: Teamwork champion for team work to to help all departments deliver their deliverables.
- Time management: Ensures you have adequate time to complete your tasks to the desired output and quality standards.
