About the Role
The Boiler Operator is responsible for the continuous operation and maintenance of boiler systems that generate steam/ hot water essential for macadamia processing. This role ensures peak operational efficiency, strict safety compliance, and minimal downtime through proactive troubleshooting and multi-disciplinary maintenance.
Responsibilities
Appointed as a food safety team member
- Participate in food safety management system (FSMS) meetings.
- Participate in food safety audits.
- Training the support staff on food safety-related attributes, such as ensuring food safety during machine repairs and maintenance.
- Ensuring proper documentation as outlined under FSMS and production operational procedures.
- Contribute towards the continuous improvement of the factory processes and systems.
Boiler, Steam & Hot Water Management
- System Operation: Operate and monitor boiler systems to provide a consistent supply of steam and hot water needed for drying macadamia by ensuring drying temperatures range between 38 °C and 44 °C.
- Maintenance & Repair: Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on complex steam, water, and compressed air systems.
- Optimization: Adjust system settings to maximize energy efficiency and propose continuous improvements for the boiler process.
- Emergency Response: Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues promptly to prevent production bottlenecks.
Safety Compliance
- Compliance: Adhere strictly to all SHEQ requirements and NITA-mandated safety standards.
- Safety Testing: Conduct routine safety tests (e.g., pressure relief valve checks, water level controls) to ensure zero-harm operations.
- Food Safety (FSMS): As a food safety team member, ensure boiler operations, including any repairs and maintenance activities, do not compromise product quality and integrity.
Record Keeping & Reporting
- Maintain accurate logs of fuel consumption, water levels, maintenance schedules, and any repair work performed.
- Report to the Technical lead on progress, challenges, and material needs promptly.
Resource & Inventory Management
- Fuel Management: Monitor and manage fuel inventory to ensure uninterrupted boiler operations.
- Spare Parts: Efficiently manage tools and spare parts for the boiler and auxiliary equipment, reporting procurement needs to the Technical Lead.

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:
- At least a certificate in mechanical, electrical, or production engineering from a recognized institution.
- Must have boiler operator certification from NITA
- Minimum 1+ years of experience with complex steam, hot water & compressed air systems in a manufacturing setting.
- Strong knowledge in Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality regulations.
- Basic knowledge in plumbing and electrical engineering.
- People Management: Experience in managing a team.
