Position Summary:
Oath is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Biological Manufacturing Research Technician with experience in the downstream processing of living microorganisms from fermentation processes to support research-driven process improvements at our manufacturing production facility. This role is ideal for someone who can confidently execute microbiological experiments after training and is passionate about applying scientific principles to real-world production challenges. Working closely with R&D leadership, you will assist in running experiments aimed at developing processes for concentrating, drying, & grinding living microorganisms. The processes you develop will be scalable and ensure product consistency. Your work will directly contribute to streamlining workflows, reducing process times, and enhancing the overall performance of our microbial production operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct downstream processing and fermentation experiments and monitor critical process parameters.
- Handle microbial cultures using aseptic techniques, prepare and pour solid agar media, and operate/maintain basic lab equipment.
- Record observations, maintain detailed data logs, assist with troubleshooting, and alert supervisors to deviations.
- Support small-batch production efforts, perform regular lab cleaning and organization, and help write/update SOPs.
- Collaborate with the team to identify process bottlenecks, participate in team meetings, and maintain inventory.
- Accurately document and report routine production procedures relevant to microbial workflows.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Food Science, or a related field.
- Hands-on lab experience in microbiology, fermentation, or similar life sciences, with familiarity in aseptic technique and sterile handling.
- Experience preparing and inoculating microbial media (liquid or solid).
- Ability to follow detailed protocols with accuracy and consistency.
- Comfortable working in warm, humid environments typical of SSF setups.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Competent in basic data recording, spreadsheet entry, and experimental tracking.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Willingness to assist with both experimental work and routine production tasks.
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- Experience with spore-forming bacteria or filamentous fungi
- Familiarity with 96-well plate assays or microbial growth quantification techniques
- Experience using moisture analyzers, pH meters, or fermentation process monitoring tools
- Previous work in regulated environments (e.g., GMP, CLIA) or startup production settings

Compensation:
Hourly Rate - $24-30/hr
