People Operations Generalist

The role in a nutshell

The People Operations Generalist works in tandem with the Chief People Officer to execute on Octaura’s people strategy. This role is critical in ensuring employee engagement, driving retention, and creating an environment that encourages employees to be invested in their work and Octaura. The People Ops Generalist will do this by:
- Communicating openly and honestly: provide employees with accurate information about company updates, employee programs, and policies.
- Providing training and development: ensure that employees are equipped with the tools and skills needed to succeed in their role.
- Implementing and facilitating recognition and reward programs.
- Prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion and focusing on creating a workplace that is inclusive and welcoming.
- Engaging informal conversations, building trust by holding regular one-on-one conversations with employees.
- Conducting employee engagement surveys using anonymous surveys that create a safe environment for employees to share feedback for management to learn about employees’ preferences, values, and sentiments.
- Organizing feedback sessions or focus groups: create structured sessions where employees can share thoughts and concerns.
- Managing People systems and tech stack to ensure employee processes are efficient and effective.
- Using active listening and communication to manage conflict and resolve employee issues in a positive and impartial way.
Additional responsibilities may include:
- May work with the talent acquisition partner, on recruitment of certain roles (intern and entry-level experienced hires), as needed.
- Manage relationships with external partners and vendors.
- Partner with marketing to drive employer branding.
- Facilitate the performance management process.
- Work on compensation processes, including compensation analyses, compensation benchmarking, and the preparation of compensation schedules and total reward statements.
- Liaise with our PEO service to ensure proper support for employees as it relates to benefits, payroll, compliance, and employee relations issues.
- Manage offboarding process, including separation communications, process, and documentation.
- Work with outside counsel to handle immigration cases.
- Ensure Octaura complies with all employment laws and stay up to date with changes
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired experience
- BA/BS degree required (in Human Resources a plus)
- At least 3 to 5 years’ experience in an HR Generalist/Business Partner capacity
- Experience with Lattice, Greenhouse and PEO a plus; should be comfortable working in different HR systems
- Strong communicator with a people-first mentality
- Analytical and data driven; solid Excel skills
- Self-starter, no ego and ability to multi-task, and handle any tasks, big or small, as required
- Demonstrated leadership and stakeholder management skills
- Strong judgement and discretion (confidentiality of employee information is key)
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment
Please note that Octaura has an in-person culture, and this role is required to be in the office with the rest of our team. The base pay range for this position in New York is $110,000 - $135,000 annually. Pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Equity and discretionary year-end bonus included in the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
